Throughout the world of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, there are a lot of different objectives for players to complete and things to explore. Players can track down different cultists to assassinate or fight against mercenaries to increase their rank around the world. Not only this but players can go on journeys to the different corners of Greece to uncover secrets and bring down all kinds of horrible beasts and strong enemies.

One of the most interesting enemies that players will face off against during the course of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the Sphinx. Most enemies that players go up against use their raw strength to bring them down, but the Spinx uses its incredible intellect to make this battle a nerve-wracking endeavor. Those who want to fight the Sphinx will need to know where to find it and how to solve its many different riddles. This guide shows players exactly how the can beat the Sphinx in a battle of wits.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey: How to Find The Sphinx

The issue with the Sphinx is that it is completely different than all of the other enemy encounters in the game. There is no fight against the Sphinx at all actually and instead whether she dies or the player does depend on how her riddles are answered. Those who want to survive will need to make sure they answer all three questions that she asks correctly. The wager with the Sphinx is one of death, so whoever loses her little game will be the one to die. Before that, players will need to find the beast, which isn’t exactly an easy job.

Unlike the other mythical beasts, players aren’t given a side quest to immediately go track down the Sphinx. In order to discover the quest players will first need to make their way to Atlantis and after completing some of the main quest line a specific story-centric character will give the player a quest called Lore of The Sphinx, as well as half of a golden medallion. Players will need to make sure they are at least level 35 before trying to attempt this mission. Once they have grinded some levels they can travel to the Strange Ruins area to start the quest. This area can be found in the southern section of Lake Kopasis.

Once here players will find a massive Sphinx statue in the center of some Isu architecture. Here they will find a man named Gorgias near the statue that is also looking for the other half of the medallion. Gorgias informs the player that his apprentice went searching for it and never came back. Players will then need to travel to the Tomb of Menoikeus to see if they can track down the apprentice, Phibos. This tomb is located northeast of the Scorched Rolling Plains, so players should be able to find it rather easily.

Once players arrive here they will find the dead body of Phibos as well as a mutilated dead cow. The player’s character decides that whatever killed the two of them most likely took the medallion as well, so the player will then need to go track down this creature. Turns out it was an alpha lion who swallowed the medallion, which players will find nearby. Kill this creature and the other half of the medallion can be found on its corpse. After that players can head back to the Sphinx Statue at the Strange Ruins.

Once here players will find that the statue and Gorgias both have disappeared and in their place is the actual Sphinx. There is now no other choice than to try and bring down this legendary creature. It is time to prepare to answer all of the Sphinx’s different riddles.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey: How to Beat the Sphinx

Once again the Sphinx requires no battling skills, but instead a player’s intellect (or in this case the ability to find the answers to her questions online). The Sphinx will ask players a question and then provide three answers to choose from. Around the room will be pillars surrounding the player that each corresponds to an answer. Players just select the panel that corresponds to the correct answer and then they can move on to the next question. Keep in mind though that these panels can be a little odd sometimes. If the exact choice doesn’t appear then players should select the closest thing to what their answer would have been.

Players will have no choice but to answer all three questions correctly if they want to survive. If a single question is answered wrong the player will die immediately, but if they get all three correct the Sphinx herself will die. Once the Sphinx has died this will complete the questline and their character will receive a brand new Piece of Eden that the Sphinx was hoarding. Additionally by defeating this beast players will gain access to an Epic Heavy Blunt Mace called the Mace of the Sphinx as well as a figurehead for their ship that resembles the Sphinx.
