How to Find (& Catch) Abomasnow in Pokémon BDSP

In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players can obtain Abomasnow either by finding and catching it or by evolving a Snover. Abomasnow is only available in specific areas in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and it will take players some time to reach a spot where they can search for this Pokémon. Before beginning the hunt for Abomasnow, players will need to beat seven of Pokémon BDSP‘s gyms and gain access to Mount Coronet.

Reaching Mount Coronet in Pokémon BDSP will require players to defeat Team Galactic at their headquarters in Veilstone City. There are a fair number of battles to get through, including a fight with Cyrus who will have level 40 or higher Pokémon. His team will depend on which version of the game players have, but the Pokémon’s levels will be at least 40 in both versions. After defeating Cyrus and leaving Team Galactic’s Headquarters, players will head to Mount Coronet where they can encounter Abomasnow.

There are two spots in Pokémon BDSP that players can find and catch Abomasnow: the exterior snow area at Mount Coronet and Mount Coronet’s peak. Abomasnow is a Grass/Ice-type Pokémon that can be more easily caught using an Ultra Ball, especially if it is a high level when players encounter it. Alternatively, players can try special PokéBalls like the Quick Ball or Timer Ball, depending on how many turns the battle takes.

Due to Abomasnow’s unique type, it takes double damage from a variety of Pokémon BDSP move types as well as four times damage from Fire-type moves. Players should use caution when hitting Abomasnow with Bug, Poison, Flying, Steel, Rock, or Fighting moves because these types may knock out Abomasnow before players have a chance to capture it. Once players find and catch Pokémon BDSP‘s Abomasnow, they can begin optimizing its moveset.

The best moveset for Abomasnow will depend on the player’s needs and what type of moves they want to add to their team. In Pokémon BDSP, Abomasnow can learn powerful Ice and Grass moves like Blizzard or Wood Hammer when it reaches higher levels. If players catch Abomasnow at a high level, they can bring it to the Move Tutor in Pokémon BDSP to teach it moves it may have already forgotten, but it will cost Heart Scales to do so.

Players can find and catch Abomasnow in certain areas of Mount Coronet in Pokémon BDSP, but if they’re having trouble finding it, they can also catch and evolve Snover instead. This Pokémon appears in the same Mount Coronet areas as well as on Routes 216 and 217, and it will evolve into Abomasnow at level 40.
