The highly anticipated Crown Tundra DLC pass for Pokémon Sword & Shield has finally arrived, and it includes some older-gen Pokémon for players to find, collect, and add to their party. The Crown Tundra is a new wintry area of the Galar region that comes complete with new Galarian Pokémon, introduces every legendary Pokémon from past games, adds new modes like Dynamax Adventures, and new costumes and cosmetics to collect. There are over 200 new Pokémon added in this pass, and players can finally add some old favorites to their Pokédex, including Dragonite.

Dragonite is a Dragon and Flying Type Pokémon from Generation 1. It is immune to damage from Ground Type Pokémon, making it a great choice to have in a party when going after these creatures. Dragonite is only available in the Crown Tundra. Players will not be able to find one in the wild, however, and will instead need to find and catch a Dratini. Then, they will need to evolve Dratini in to Dragonair, and then evolve Dragonair to get Dragonite. Dratini and Dragonair evolve fairly easily once they reach the right level. Here’s how to get Dragonite in Pokémon Sword & Shield: The Crown Tundra DLC.

How to Find Dratini in Pokémon Sword & Shield Crown Tundra DLC

There are three ways to encounter Dratini in the Pokémon Sword & Shield Crown Tundra DLC. The first, and easiest, is by fishing in Ballimere Lake on the new Crown Tundra map. The second, which is more difficult and rare, is to seek Dratini out in the Ballimere Lake waters in the Overworld. The third way is in two- and three-star raids at Ballimere Lake.

Players will only find Dratini around the Ballimere Lake region by the Legendary Tree, and it can spawn in all weather conditions. There is about a 5% chance of finding Dratini here at any given time, either in the Overworld or by fishing, so players will need to be patient and keep searching until they find one.

To catch Dratini, players will want to try using Fire, Ice, Dragon, or Fairy-Type Pokémon and specialty Poké Balls.

How to Evolve Dratini and Dragonair into Dragonite in Pokémon Sword & Shield Crown Tundra DLC

Dratini will evolve into Dragonair at level 30. Players are most likely to catch one at a much higher level (around Level 65 or so), so they’ll just want to feed it enough EXP Candy to level up once to evolve it into Dragonair.

Once players have Dragonair, they need to continue leveling up this Pokémon. They can do this through regular play, or they can use EXP Candy to do so more quickly. Once they have leveled up Dragonair enough (usually between Level 55 and 100), it will evolve into Dragonite.

Pokémon Sword & Shield is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
