Many Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl players are interested in acquiring the Water-type Pokémon, Finneon, but aren’t sure why they can’t find it. Finneon is a cute winged fish that evolves into Lumineon, which can be a powerful asset to a team. However, a couple of unique aspects of the Pokémon make it a little trickier for players to track down.

First off, Finneon can only be found via fishing which means that simply roaming through an area in the game will not elicit an encounter with the Water-type Pokémon, which can explain why some players haven’t run into Finneon on their own. Players have to get to a fishable body of water in Sinnoh to attempt to catch Finneon, and to do this; they will need to acquire a specific rod. This means that they will need to get a couple of Pokémon gym badges to access the rod they will need.

The rod needed to encounter Finneon is called the Good Rod, and it can be obtained on Route 209 East of Hearthhome City. While traveling this area, players will run into a fishable body of water with several docks and a fisherman NPC that can supply them with the Good Rod. However, fishing with this rod won’t guarantee an encounter with Finneon every time since other fish Pokémon can also be caught while using the Good Rod.

Catching Finneon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

There are several locations where Finneon can be found in the water at these following locations:

  • Route 205
  • Route 218
  • Route 219
  • Route 220
  • Route 221
  • Valley Windworks
  • Fuego Ironworks
  • Canalave City
  • Iron Island

Fishing these places will eventually get players in front of a Finneon, and they will be able to battle and catch one. They have a decent catch rate, so players don’t need to be discouraged if they don’t catch it on their first try. They aren’t too difficult to come across with the right rod, and they are pretty forgiving, so no Pokémon BDSP Master Balls are needed. Additionally, Finneon isn’t that difficult to fight since it is most powerful once evolved into Lumineon.

Getting Finneon evolved to Lumineon is pretty easy from there, as players will just need to get the Pokémon to level 31. Alternatively, players can acquire the Super Rod and fish for Lumineon directly, but this takes getting much farther into the game. So, if players need a Water-type Pokémon quickly, this likely isn’t the optimal way to get it since the barrier to entry is much higher.
