Meowstic resides from the Kalos region and makes an appearance in Pokemon Sword & Shield. This guide will help players locate a Shiny Meowstic in the game. Ever since the sixth generation of Pokemon, the series has focused more on having 3D environments for its mainline titles. The series has had 3D since the release of Pokemon Stadium back on the Nintendo 64, but this was usually meant for spin-off titles, never the main games. With the release of Pokemon X and Y, it marked the first time a mainline title has taken the leap into full 3D. Kalos began that trend along with being the region Meowstic originates from. Here’s how players can find their very own Meowstic in Pokemon Sword & Shield.

There are a few things players need to accomplish when Shiny hunting Pokemon. These range from understanding the methods of how Shiny hunting works and what items will increase their chances of locating one, regardless of its through the breeding or the battling. While it isn’t necessary, these are here to make it much easier to encounter these elusive Shiny creatures.

  • The Oval Charm: Makes it easier for eggs to appear while a Pokemon is in the Day Care. The player must be the Champion. Head to Circhester and enter the building right next to the Pokemon Center. Inside will be a trainer who will only battle the player after they become champion. Defeat him, and he will award the player with the Oval Charm.
  • Flame Body: Makes eggs hatch faster. There’s currently 7 Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield with this ability. Those Pokemon are Litwick, Lampent, Chandelure, Carkol, Coalossal, Sizzilipede, and Centiscorch. Carkol is the easiest to get in this group, as players can find them spawning in the Galar Mine. Once players have a Carkol with Flame Body, eggs will hatch much faster.
  • Regional Ditto: Increases the chance of running into a Shiny egg. To obtain one of these, the player will likely have to trade with a trainer from another region. If the player has Pokemon Home, they can search for one using the GTS. Breeding with this Ditto and another Pokemon will increase the odds of the egg being shiny.
  • Shiny Charm: This item brings the odds from 1/4096 to 1/1365.33. To get this item, the player will need to have completed their Pokedex in the game, meaning capturing and registering all 400 Pokemon in the game. After doing this, head over to Circhster and enter the building with the flags on the outside. Go in the elevator and head to the room on the far left. Speak with the doctor in this room and he will give the player the Shiny Charm.

Once the player has all of these, now it’s just a game of chance. Here’s how players can find a Shiny Meowstic.

How To Get A Shiny Meowstic in Pokemon Sword & Shield

Technically, there are two different Shiny versions of Meowstic. This is one of the Pokemon where the gender of its previous evolution matters to determine which form it will take. Espurr, the pre-evolution of Meowstic can be either male or female. Depending on which gender the player selects, determines what form it will take when it evolves at Level 25. The player who attempts to have both Shiny versions will struggle greatly, as its a 50/50 chance what gender Espurr will be. Fortunately, in Pokemon Sword & Shield, Meowstic is a Pokemon that appears in the overworld of the wild area, so when encountering it, the player can easily determine which form it is. Here are all the locations of Meowstic in Pokemon Sword & Shield.

  • Meowstic Location: Route 7, Dusty Bowl, Max Raid Battles: Stony Wilderness, Watchtower Ruins

The male version will appear most often during Fog in the Dusty Bowl with a 45% of appearance. To change the weather in the game, the player can enter their Nintendo Switch settings and change the date. This will change the weather in the game, making it easier to select the weather the player desires. When encountering a Meowstic, defeat it in a battle to increase the chances of running into a Shiny Pokemon. The game keeps track of the amount of Pokemon the player has battled. For example, the game will keep track of every Pikachu the player has battled or captured. If the player repeatedly defeats this specific Pokemon, the odds of it coming out shiny will increase. All the player has to do is encounter it in the wild and beat it in battle. Eventually, a Shiny Meowstic will appear. Make sure to capture it when it does, it will be an extremely long time until the player will find another.

Alternatively, the player could breed for a Shiny Espurr and evolve it. To do this, place the Regional Ditto in the Day Care Center along with an Espurr or Meowstic. This will produce an egg. Make sure to have a Pokemon with Flame Body in the front of the party as this will decrease the number of steps the player needs to hatch eggs. Keep collecting eggs and hatching them until a Shiny Espurr appears in one of the eggs. The issue with this method is the player has no control over what gender the Espurr will be. Meaning if the player is attempting to find both Shiny Meowstic, it’s completely up to chance if the gender of the Pokemon is opposite to the one the trainer already owns. It’s challenging and time-consuming, but not impossible.

Pokemon Sword & Shield, similar to Pokemon X and Y, introduces plenty of new firsts for the series. For starters, this is the first mainline title to feature the wild area, a location where Pokemon spawn naturally in their environments. Next, this is the first entry in the series to receive paid DLC. The Pokemon Sword & Shield expansion pass includes two new wild areas, over 200 older Pokemon, and new legendary Pokemon to capture. It is likely the series will distribute new content through this method rather than releasing a third version like they have with previous generations. Pokemon Sword & Shield is one of the best-selling Nintendo Switch titles to date.
