Nosepass, a pure Rock-type originating from the Hoenn region, now has its shiny form available in Pokémon GO. The trademark giant nose of this strange creature is magnetic and will always point north. Not only does this make it a good compass for trainers on the go, but it can use magnetism to defend itself in combat. When exposed to unusual landscapes in the mainline games, it will evolve into Probopass, a Rock and Steel-type introduced during the Diamond and Pearl entries. In GO, the evolution occurs if the player is within range of a Pokéstop with a magnetic lure module active.

The addition of Shiny Nosepasses to Pokémon GO coincides with the Searching For Legends event, which has a focus on catching Rock, Ground, and Steel types. Shiny Pokémon have the same stats as regular ones and harbor no special features outside of their unique coloration. This makes them highly sought after for collectors sake, prompting many players to become so-called ‘shiny hunters’. Those that can get their hands on a Probopass will also have an ally with high defense on their side that has access to Electric moves. This guide will offer some tips to help find shiny Nosepass.

Finding Shiny Nosepass in Pokémon GO

Just like with all the other Pokémon in GO, their typing determines where they spawn. Rock types like Nosepass have been shown to spawn in both urban and rural environments, from parking lots and cities to farmlands and nature parks. Players will want to head to these locations anyway because even if they don’t encounter Nosepass, the Rock types they find there can be used to complete the Searching For Legends quests. People hunting for a shiny Nosepass will find it in their best interest to complete this event because each stage will reward players with a free Nosepass encounter every time. This means that trainers will have seven guaranteed Nosepass battles, with a chance each one could be a shiny.

Because this event won’t last forever, try to complete the quests as soon as possible. Outside of this method, it’s best to tap and battle each Nosepass that is found in the wild, as there’s no telling whether it is shiny or not based on its overworld design. Use lure modules on Pokéstops in locations where Nosepass have been found to increase their spawn rate exponentially, and if that isn’t enough to get them to appear, use an incense item to make even more Pokémon gather in the trainer’s area.
