How to Find (& Catch) Shiny Roggenrola for Unova Week in Pokémon GO

A new week has begun, and for Pokémon GO players, it means a new special event. These events have been occurring for the past few weeks, and the theme this time for the mobile Pokémon game is to catch Pokémon from the Unova region. The Unova region was first introduced in Pokémon Black & White, and was inspired by New York City and the surrounding countryside.

While Roggenrola could be found in Pokémon GO before, the new update adds the shiny variant to the game. So of course, the goal is to catch a shiny Roggenrola. Roggenrola is a rock-type Pokémon with two evolutions, which are called Boldore and Gigalith. For this week, players will see a lot more of them in the wild as they walk around. They will also see them more often in raids as well as the 7km eggs.

How to find a Shiny Roggenrola in Pokémon GO

During this period, players should try to capture Roggenrola at every chance. There are two main reasons for this. One: as there are more Roggenrola that can be encountered, there is a chance (although small) that the Roggenrola may end up being a shiny variant. Players will know because it will be a different color on the capture screen. Normally, the Roggenrola has what looks like a single yellow eye. The shiny variant will have an orange one instead, and a purple body. Note that this does not apply to the map, only when players try to capture the Pokémon. If a player manages to capture one, congratulations, quest complete!

The second reason that players should try to catch as many Roggenrola as possible is that they give players candies. Whenever possible, players should try to use Pinap Berries or Silver Pinap Berries. These give the player even more Roggenrola candies, which are needed for the evolutions. Evolving the Roggenrola into Boldore requires 50 candies. To evolve Boldore into Gigalith requires a whopping 200 candies! However, there is a way around that. Boldore will also evolve if it is traded to another player. Just make sure that the player can be trusted. As a matter of fact, this was the only way to originally obtain a Gigalith when it first appeared in the series.

As mentioned earlier, players can also encounter a Roggenrola in raids and eggs. There is a small chance that one will be a shiny version. Really, the way to get a shiny version of Pokémon all boils down to luck. Some people may get one quickly, while it may take longer for others.

Shiny Pokémon are simply a color variant. They do not have any special benefits, and their stats aren’t any better on average. They exist merely for bragging rights because they are so incredibly rare.
