Fishing is usually not a required activity in video games, but instead can be a fun diversion. It is no different in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Though in this case, players wishing to complete the museum will need to catch all different types of fish, and then donate them to Blathers, the museum curator. When he receives bugs, fish, sea creatures, fossils, or artwork, Blathers will speak a little bit about the thing being donated, telling some interesting facts.

One of the fish players will have to catch to complete the fish gallery in the museum is the Arowana. Those who are familiar with Arowanas will know that they are large freshwater fish, which will give players a hint as to where they can be caught on any of the islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and what they should be looking for in terms of shadow size.

Catching the Arowana in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The Arowana can be found in rivers, and like many other creatures in the game, can only be found and caught at specific times. In this case, the Arowana can be found between the hours of 4 PM to 9 AM, which is a convenient time for many people. Unlike. A. Certain. Bug.

For players who live in the northern hemisphere, now is the perfect time to catch the Arowana. It is in season from June till the end of September.  Players in the southern hemisphere will have to wait until December through March. Unless of course, they don’t want to wait. Players who visit a friend’s island located in the opposite hemisphere will have access to all the creatures that are in season for that hemisphere, enabling them to catch things they would not be able to on their own island.

When searching for fish along the river, players should be looking for large shadows. It may take numerous attempts, as there are other fish (and turtles) that share the same profile as the Arowana. Players are probably more likely to catch the most metal of all fish, the black bass before they catch an Arowana. At least it’s not the sea bass. Keep trying, and eventually one of those shadows will be the Arowana. Mission accomplished!

It’s not a terrible fish to catch more than once either. After donating one to the museum if so inclined, the Arowana can be sold at Nook’s Cranny for 10,000 bells. Or, if players don’t mind waiting for a day when he shows up, C.J. the beaver will buy fish at 150% more than can be sold at Nook’s Cranny. Which means 15000 bells. Yes, there are other fish worth more, but they are also rare.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on Nintendo Switch.
