Neon Abyss is a rogue-lite game from Veewo and Team 17. A bullet-hell platformer, Neon Abyss lets players play as a member of the Grim Squad. Hired by Hades, you and your squad have been tasked with ridding Hell of the New Gods. The game includes procedurally generated dungeons, secret rooms, and unique items.

There are a variety of special rooms that can be unlocked, like secret rooms or devil and angel rooms. Some of these rooms will have hidden weapons or other items. While secret rooms can be unlocked using brute force and upgrades, players will only be unlocked through gameplay and filling progress bars.

Devil and Angel Rooms in Neon Abyss

Players are given two bars, Violence (red) and Wisdom (purple). The violence bar is filled by taking damage and spending health, and by shooting crystal chests, doors, and giant crystals to use health. If need be, players can also put themselves in the line of fire to take some damage and spend some health. The wisdom bar is filled by avoiding damage and spending crystals. Crystals can be used to open doors and purchase items at shops. To earn crystals, defeat enemies.

When either bar is full, the players can teleport to an angel or devil room. In the devil room, players can spend a heart container to choose between three items, and in the angel room, the player can choose between two items for free. Heart containers can be earned by picking up certain food-themed items. Either way, players leave the room with only one item. Devil rooms will offer more offensive items while angel rooms will offer more defensive items. Many of the items earned throughout the game can be compounded, letting the player take advantage of all of their items’ passive bonuses.

Some of the angel room items will also make it easier for players to earn crystals to later spend, while devil rooms may give players better weapons to encourage them to join the fray. This allows players to continue their trend of playing offensively or defensively. The progress bar will then empty so that it can be refilled again.

Now that you know how to access the devil and angel rooms in Neon Abyss, you can either make choices that cause you to spend crystals or put yourself in harm’s way to spend health. Either way, you will be leaving the room with an item that can help you progress through Hades’ Neon Hell.

Neon Abyss is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
