Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds is a game that presents players with challenging decisions. Decisions like whose small colony is worth diverting power to, or whether to snipe a bandit from 500 meters or simply walk up and bash him in the shins with a large hammer. These are both equally essential questions in The Outer Worlds, and with the game’s recent port to Switch finally being released (N64 graphics notwithstanding), there are now sure to be many more players confronted with the same conundrums.

The question of how to arm oneself is a significant one in The Outer Worlds. The game is chock full of retrofuturist sci-fi weaponry for players to tinker with as they carve a swathe through the Halcyon System. There are dozens of weapons for players to choose from (previously mentioned sniper and hammer included), and players who favor the peculiar may take a special interest in the game’s science weapons. These are weapons that have a range of unique and outlandish effects when used on one’s foes. One particular science weapon that draws interest from those who seek to rearrange mandibles is the eloquently named Mandibular Rearranger. It’s a large refrigerated club that slows enemies with each hit and, after several blows, causes them to eventually freeze completely.

Locating the Mandibular Rearranger in The Outer Worlds

Luckily for players looking to reconstruct faces, the Mandibular Rearranger is not difficult to acquire, it’s simply a matter of knowing where to look. On the Asteroid Scylla, players will find the Abandoned Mining Camp just east of the landing site of the Unreliable. Head up the main road leading to the Camp, and enter the second building on the right, past the General Store. Immediately upon entry, players will find a small green safe containing the Mandibular Rearranger.

Alternatively, purchasing the “Hephaestus Mining – Archive Cartridge” from Gladys in the Rest-n-Go aboard the Groundbreaker will direct players precisely to the weapon. However, players are not required to begin this quest if they still wish to acquire the frozen beat-stick.

The Mandibular Rearranger scales with the Science skill, so a science-focused melee build should serve players well. Wielding this fearsome cryo-club, players may begin their journey towards stunlocking anything that stands in their way. Science weapons in The Outer Worlds provide players with a unique approach to combat that allows for plenty of moment-to-moment diversity.

The Outer Worlds is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
