Based on the legends and lore of Norse mythology, players enter the world of Valheim to do battle with trolls and skeletons while surviving in the harsh open world. Maintaining equipment and resources is an important part of staying alive, so players will want to track down the merchant for his wares.

Haldor is a blue-skinned dwarf with a big orange beard and is the merchant players can interact with. He sells several items to help warriors in their travels and can even provide them with more coins if they have enough resources. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have any set location where players can reliably find him, so here’s a guide on where to find Haldor.

Finding Haldor in Valheim

Similar to Minecraft, another game in the open-world genre, Valheim is procedurally generated. This means that every hill, river, tree, and terrain layout is random for each game world. However, different locations in the world are classified as different biomes, containing varying fauna and creatures to diversify the realm. To find Haldor, players will need to look for the Black Forest biome. Identifiable by its large trees and ferns, Black Forests have lots of minable ore, making it a great way to gather resources. Haldor will spawn his little shop somewhere in this biome, but as expected for this game genre, where it will be is random. A player’s best bet for finding this merchant is by journeying across the map and taking note of where any Black Forests are located or returning to any previous ones that have yet to be explored. Once one is found, search the entire area for Haldor’s wagon. A giant protective sphere surrounds him and the wagon, which not only wards off any hostile NPCs, but is another clue that gives away his location. In case players forget his whereabouts, it will be automatically marked on the map with a pouch icon.

After finding the merchant, players can buy several items from him by pressing ‘E’ when in range. They range from the Megingjord, an accessory that boosts inventory carry weight, to fishing supplies to provide players with a food source. They all require gold to purchase, but in case players don’t have enough on them, Haldor offers another service to help them. By pressing the gold coin icon in the bottom right corner of the shopping window, players can bring up the selling option. Now, Haldor will buy resources from the player in exchange for gold. Not only is this a great way to earn enough currency for his wares, but it’s a profitable way to clean up inventory space.

Valheim is in early access and is available for PC.
