Update 1.5 for Stardew Valley introduced tons of new content, including beach farming, new villagers, and a new location, Ginger Island. Once players unlock Ginger Island, they will have access to the beach resort, Pirate Cove, Dig Site, Volcano Dungeon, as well as new crops and livestock. Players will also be able to find and unlock a new, craftable item that can be used to make crafting instantaneous: Fairy Dust. Once crafted, Fairy Dust can be used on any of the refining equipment to receive their products instantly.

To get the recipe for Fairy Dust, players will need to unlock Ginger Island. Ginger Island is considered an endgame location, so players will need to have completed the community center or Joja warehouse first. Once the player receives their invitation from Willy and repairs his boat, they can head to the island to start their quest for the Fairy Dust recipe. Fairy Dust can be extremely valuable and help players farm products more quickly and efficiently. Here’s how to get Fairy Dust in Stardew Valley.

How to Get Fairy Dust in Stardew Valley

When players reach Ginger Island, they will want to begin by gathering Golden Walnuts, which act as currency for the parrot NPCs on Ginger Island. Players will need Golden Walnuts to unlock access to various parts of the island or perks to make traveling easier. They’ll need to find 10 and exchange them with the parrot who is standing in front of a turtle to unlock the west side, where the quest begins.

Once they can access the west side of the island, players will need to find Birdie, one of the NPCs native to the island. She will be fishing on the shore. Talking to Birdie unlocks “The Pirate’s Wife” quest, which will need to be fully completed to unlock the recipe.

To complete “The Pirate’s Wife,” players will need to take the War Memento Birdie offers them and trade it to Kent for Gourmet Tomato Salt. They will then need to continue trading the following items to get Birdie a Pirate’s Locket:

  • Trade the Gourmet Tomato Salt to Gus for a Stardew Valley Rose.
  • Trade the Stardew Valley Rose to Sandy for the Advanced TV Remote.
  • Trade the Advanced TV Remote to George for an Arctic Shard.
  • Trade the Arctic Shard to the Wizard for a Wriggling Worm.
  • Trade the Wriggling Worm to Willy for the Pirate’s Locket.

Once players bring Birdie the Pirate’s Locket, the quest will register as complete. Birdie will give the player the recipe for Fairy Dust, along with 5 Golden Walnuts.

To make Fairy Dust, players will need the following:

  • Diamond (1)
  • Fairy Rose (1)

Diamonds can be crafted if players have the Crystalarium. If not, players can find them in mines or from fighting and defeating monsters, especially those in the Volcano Dungeon on Ginger Island. Fairy Roses are a little harder to obtain. Players will need to purchase the seeds from Pierre’s Store, the Night Market, or the Traveling Cart. Fairy Roses only grow in Fall, so players will likely want to grow them in a Greenhouse or in pots inside their home to make sure they have enough for Fairy Dust all year long.

Players will need to craft the Fairy Dust. They can then use it on any crafting equipment to get their crafted item instantly. The only exception is when Fairy Dust is used on Casks. Instead of finishing the process instantly, Fairy Dust will raise the quality level of the item currently being improved by 1.

Stardew Valley is available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Linux, iOS, and Android.
