In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, players can get a Mismagius for their team as one of the only pure Ghost-type Pokémon available in the Sinnoh region. Mismagius is the evolved form of Misdreavus, another pure Ghost-type Pokémon that was originally introduced alongside the launch of Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver. Like many other Pokémon introduced prior to the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Misdreavus was one Pokémon whose evolved form was not part of the games until players explored the Sinnoh region for the first time.

As a pure Ghost-type Pokémon, Mismagius takes no damage from Normal- and Fighting-type Pokémon moves. Though it may not be one of the best competitive Ghost-type Pokémon in BDSP, Mismagius does have exceptional Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed stats that make it a viable option in certain situations. In particular, Mismagius is an excellent counter for a Psychic-type Pokémon like Alakazam, Mr. Mime, or Medicham. Trainers who use Mismagius have to be wary of its Ghost- and Dark-type weaknesses, however, especially considering many Dark-type Pokémon moves are physically offensive moves.

Unfortunately for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond players, Misdreavus and Mismagius are Shining Pearl exclusives, meaning players will have to trade for either. Conversely, the Brilliant Diamond exclusive equivalents are Murkrow and Honchkrow. Honchkrow happens to be one of the best competitive Dark-type Pokémon available in BDSP, so it should be an easy trade for both Pokémon. In Pokémon Shining Pearl, players can find a Misdreavus in the Eterna Forest and Lost Tower. Thanks to the Ground Underground, Misdreavus can also be found in the Dazzling Cave and Stargleam Cavern.

How To Evolve Misdreavus Into Mismagius In Pokémon BDSP

To evolve Misdreavus into Mismagius, players will need to find a Dusk Stone. Luckily, these types of evolution stones can be found in three locations across the Sinnoh region alone, and several times over again from Pokémon with the Pickup ability. Once a Pokémon with the Pickup ability reaches level 11, they have a certain percentage chance of finding a Dusk Stone on the ground outside of battle if they aren’t already holding an item. Pachirisu is an excellent choice of Pokémon with this ability, and it’s available in both versions. Additionally, Teddiursa, another Pokémon Shining Pearl exclusive, also has the Pickup ability.

Dusk Stone locations in Pokémon BDSP can be found in the Team Galactic Warehouse, Victory Road, and the Grand Underground. For the Grand Underground Dusk Stone, players need to head to the beach on Route 213 and use the Explorer Kit to reach Bogsunk Cave. This Dusk Stone is in the lower left part of the cavern. The Victory Road Dusk Stone can only be obtained once players have the National Dex. They’ll need to return to Victory Road, enter the part of the cave that was previously blocked by an NPC, and use Strength to move boulders out of the way to reach the Dusk Stone. The final Dusk Stone in Pokémon BDSP can be found in the Team Galactic Warehouse as players naturally progress through the story. Use a Dusk Stone on Misdreavus at any level to evolve it into Mismagius.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl are available for Nintendo Switch.
