Digger Drills are an item that allows players to create Secret Bases in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Secret Bases have been a staple in the series since the release of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire when it made its debut. Normally, these are used as special places where places can decorate them with a variety of furniture items. Although in Pokémon BDSP, Secret Bases have an entirely new function. They can also only be created when exploring the Grand Underground.

The Grand Underground is a location within the depths of Sinnoh where trainers can play together and hunt for valuable materials. Players will unlock access to the Grand Underground during their first visit to Eterna City. After speaking with the Explorer Man, the player will be given the Explorer’s Kit and a variety of Grand Underground-related tasks that will reward players for completing them. For completing his third challenge, he will give the player a free Diggers Drill. It’s important to mention that this item disappears the moment it’s used, meaning trainers will need to get more Digger Drills if they wish to move their secret bases.

Pokémon BDSP only allows players to have one Secret Base in the Grand Underground. In order to unlock more, trainers will need to navigate the Grand Underground until they find the Sphere Salesmen. These are the hiker-avatar characters that will offer the player items in exchange for a variety of spheres. He will sell the player additional Digger Drills for eight Blue Spheres, trainers should stock up on as many Digger Drills as possible if they spend a lot of time in the Grand Underground.

Using The Digger Drill in Pokémon BDSP

By facing a wall in the Grand Underground of Pokémon BDSP with a Diggers Drill, trainers can place a hole for their Secret Bases. Inside, they can place a variety of Pokémon statues that they find from mining. Putting these statues inside the Secret Base will increase the spawn rate of those types of Pokémon. For example, placing a Swinub statue will increase the spawn rate of Ground and Ice-type Pokémon since it is those typings.

Shiny Statues can also appear with a solid green color that makes it stand out from the normal grey version. Finding these are incredibly rare and typically only spawn when the player finds 40 Digletts in the Grand Underground. Doing this increases the spawn rate of all Gorgeous Boxes, which is where Shiny Statues come from. These statues can be helpful if trainers are planning to hunt for a specific Pokémon. It’s also effective for Shiny Hunters who wish to locate tons of one type of Pokémon. There are hundreds of different statues to find in Pokémon BDSP, and collecting them all will be a real challenge for Pokémon completionists.
