How to Get More Ice Crystals in FFXIV (& What They’re For)

Ice Crystals are a fundamental crafting resource in Final Fantasy XIV that Armorers primarily use to craft armor recipes. Unfortunately, NPC vendors do not sell or buy Crystals, as the only way to get them is through in-game activities or player trading via the Market Board. On the player market, sellers will offer bundles of Ice Crystals in quantities of hundreds and even thousands in FFXIV. Depending on the server, crafters may need tens of thousands of Gil to buy the Ice Crystals they need. While this is a convenient way of acquiring Crystals, it is also exceptionally costly.

Thankfully, Final Fantasy XIV offers several approaches for getting Ice Crystals. One way is through combat by completing Dungeons such as The Sirensong Sea or slaying Ice Sprites commonly found in Coerthas Central Highlands. Another way is following the Armorer questline, which rewards players upwards of hundreds of Ice Crystals. Alternatively, those who have unlocked the Beast Tribe Daily Quests for the Moogles, Namazu, or Dwarves can complete repeatable dailies in FFXIV for a decent supply of infinite Ice Crystals.

Gathering is the most time-consuming yet most reliable Crystal-farming method for those who put in the time and effort. There are two skills that every Miner or Botanist should utilize when farming Ice Crystals in FFXIV: The Twelve’s Bounty and The Giving Land. Obtained at Level 20, The Twelve’s Bounty will increase every Crystal yield by 3 for 150 GP. The Giving Land is unlocked much later at Level 74 and will raise the number of Ice Crystals collected by a random amount. It is recommended to take GP-replenishing Hi-Cordials when gathering any type of Crystal. Hi-Cordials can be purchased from the Quartermaster of one’s Grand Company in FFXIV.

• Level 65 Nodes at The Bed of Bones: gathered with Miner
• Level 75 Nodes at The Convictory: gathered with Miner

Kholusia, Norvrandt

• Level 70 Nodes at Stonegazer: gathered with Botanist
• Level 75 Nodes at The Bright Cliff: gathered with Botanist

One of the fastest ways to amass Ice Crystals is through Retainer Ventures in FFXIV. However, this method is only recommended to those who won’t be leaving the game for a long time, as multiple visits to one’s Retainers are required. Aetherial Reduction by breaking down Collectibles is also an excellent means of farming, but it does demand knowledge of how and where to get Collectibles in FFXIV.
