Resident Evil Village, like most games in the Resident Evil franchise, is known for its wide variety of weapons. From pistols to rocket launchers, Capcom’s seminal franchise has seen every type of ranged weapon become wieldable. One of the most impressive handguns in the series is the uber-powerful magnum handgun.

In the eighth entry in the franchise, there is a magnum to rule all magnums. This immensely powerful weapon is known as the S.T.A.K.E. And this guide reveals how to unlock its destructive potential.

How to Get the STAKE Magnum in Resident Evil Village

First and foremost, it’s important to understand the power of the S.T.A.K.E. This pistol, nicknamed the “Piledriver” is a semi-automatic handgun. It means it has a higher rate of fire than the usual hand cannons that Resident Evil features.

It has a base power of 2,000 and a rate of fire of 1.3 seconds between shots, which is surprisingly good for a gun of this variety. Its initial reload speed is pretty slow at 2.7 seconds, but with a 10-round mag, players can fire for a bit before having to worry about it. The weapon has six levels of upgrades, and taking it all the way to the max will make the S.T.A.K.E. an unstoppable killing machine.

Additionally, it’s possible to increase the gun’s magazine size with a High-Capacity Magazine Upgrade. And if the recoil is affecting accuracy significantly, an Improved Grip significantly reduces the problem.

The S.T.A.K.E., High-Capacity Magazine, and the Improved Grip are all purchased from the fat man himself: The Duke. Seems easy enough, but as always there is a catch. Unfortunately for players who want to explode monsters and zombies with this godlike weapon, they’ll have to wait, because this magnum isn’t available immediately.

Instead, players have to complete an entire playthrough of Resident Evil Village before they earn the privilege of taking the S.T.A.K.E. into battle. Once the credits finish rolling, players should start a new game plus and hop back into the action. When they finally make it back to the Duke, he’ll have the weapon in his store ready for purchase.

It makes sense though. The S.T.A.K.E. is incredibly powerful, and giving players access to that amount of unbridled firepower so early in the game would completely throw it off balance. So, if the desire is to take the fight back to the monsters with an incredible semi-automatic hand cannon, the price of admission is completing the game one time. A pretty small price to pay all things considered.
