Every good Mafioso needs a reliable, powerful gun, and Mafia: Definitive Edition delivers several firearms to choose from. One offering, the Tommy Gun, is particularly noteworthy, as it’s the kind of gun that has become synonymous with organized crime. Mafia: Definitive Edition is a remaster of the popular Mafia series. In the game, players control Tommy Angelo, a cabbie who becomes a mafioso for the powerful Salieri crime family of Lost Heaven. Because Tommy is coerced into joining, he doesn’t start the game with the trappings of a mobster. Instead, as the player completes story missions, explores Lost Heaven, and outrun authorities, they will eventually earn some new clothes and weapons that better fit the tradition of Prohibition-era mafiosos.

The Thompson submachine gun, Tommy Gun for short, joins Tommy Angelo’s arsenal a few hours into gameplay in Chapter 8: The Saint and The Sinner, which is a little over the halfway point of the game. Players can progress through the mission as normal and will eventually come across the gun after killing another mobster. Later, they can also choose to exclusively use this weapon when they play in Free Ride mode. Here’s how to get the Tommy Gun in Mafia: Definitive Edition.

Players can progress normally through the game to reach Chapter 8. During this lengthy main story mission, Tommy is tasked with eliminating the manager of the Corleone Hotel. He also has a second task which requires him to convince Michelle in room 208 to leave town.

Once he manages to complete both of these tasks, he will be prompted to enter the manager’s office on the top floor of the hotel. Here, he will walk through a long, glass corridor and a group of enemies will attack from the other end of the hall. One of these enemies has and uses the Tommy Gun. Players should try to eliminate him first, as they can loot the Gun from his corpse and use it to finish eliminating the remaining men.

Tommy will be able to use this weapon for the duration of the mission, which will be useful for escaping the area. However, players will want to be careful while out on the street and keep a low profile from any police officers. Because the weapon is fairly conspicuous, they may want to avoid using it while in public near the end of Chapter 8. Tommy will be using the iconic Tommy Gun far more in Chapter 9’s main mission, so players will have plenty of opportunities to play the game like a true gangster.

If that’s not enough time to enjoy combat with this weapon, once the Tommy Gun has been found in Chapter 8, players can also enter Free Ride mode and use it to complete any of the missions there. The player can complete the iconic gangster look by changing Tommy’s outfit, a feature that’s only available in Free Ride.

Mafia: Definitive Edition is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
