Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was the first installment in the series to give players so many different melee weapon options. Black Ops Cold War is clearly following that trend. Players can even wield a Sledgehammer if they complete the right challenge. Whenever a new melee weapon drops, there’s always a challenge attached to it that is completable in Multiplayer or Warzone. The Wakizashi Blade is no different.

The only obscure thing about the Wakizashi Blade is that it doesn’t appear in the weapons menu. The same can be said for the Streetsweeper Shotgun, and its unlock challenge. Players that don’t have it unlocked will not see it as a greyed-out option as they would in Modern Warfare. It’s not clear if this is a glitch or not. Perhaps Wakizashi Blade exists in the game code but wasn’t supposed to be made available until next season. Get it while it’s still around! Here’s how to unlock the Wazikashi Blade in Black Ops Cold War.

Black Ops Cold War – Unlocking the Wakizashi Blade

The challenge for this one is simple but time-consuming. Players must perform 2 finishing moves in one game using the Cold War combat knife 10 times. Warzone-exclusive players, get ready to drop into Plunder all day; this challenge won’t come as easy as the FINN LMG was.

This challenge does get easier since players can perform finishing moves on downed enemies. Some communication will be key as teammates should let each other know when they’ve downed someone. Since the Wazikashi Blade doesn’t show up in the weapons menu, players can’t track their progress. It would be wise to grab a pen a paper and keep track of the challenge the old fashioned way.

The video below from YouTuber PrestigeIsKey explains how to unlock the Wazikashi Blade and shows off a little gameplay footage.

What is a Wakizashi Blade?

The Wakizashi Blade was the preferred secondary weapon to ancient Samurai. It looks exactly like a short Katana and should spark some Ghost of Tsushima stealth memories. It was a light-weight weapon that was as sharp as can be and durable as stone.

As far as Black Ops Cold War is concerned, the in-game stats state that it has a bit more range than the Cold War Combat Knife but moves a few frames slower. Those two stats should cancel each other out as the slower swing will still connect from a greater distance.

Players will be holding the Wakizashi blade sideways like a true badass. However, it’s frustrating since it would be much more viable as a lunging mini-Katana. While Black Ops Cold War isn’t ‘Ghost of Tsushima the FPS,’ players would still appreciate some realism as far as these weapons are concerned.

It’s not clear whether or not the Wakizashi Blade is a glitch or a secret. Players can still unlock camos for it and complete challenges as well. In the coming days, we’ll see if devs patch the weapon challenge and keep it hidden until the next major update or season. But can they? So many players already have it. It would be like taking Christmas gifts away from a child.
