Most of the items required to craft and upgrade in Ghost of Tsushima are relatively easy to find. These items can be brought to various traders and smiths in different towns to either sharpen Jin’s blade, strengthen his armor or tighten his bow.

When it comes to upgrading Jin’s half-bow and longbow, he’ll need supplies, bamboo, Yew Wood, and Wax Wood. The first three are relatively easy to find, however, players will have to search Tsushima’s peaks to find Wax Wood. This guide will walk Tsushima Archers through farming Wax Wood to complete their bow upgrades.

Farming Wax Wood in Ghost of Tsushima

When players open their satchels, they’ll notice that the collectible items are organized by category and tier. The far right ingredients such as Wax Wood, Gold, and Predator Hides are the rarest. While Gold can be obtained from Mongol camps, and Predator Hides can be found out in the wild, Wax Wood will require a bit more effort. To properly farm Wax Wood, players will want to invest a technique point into ‘Wind of Charms’. This will guide Jin to Shinto Shrines around Tsushima and award him with unique and powerful charms. However, players will also be rewarded with a piece of Wax Wood upon completion of the shrine.

Completing the Shinto Shrine is not the only way to find Wax Wood though. As Jin scales the mountain (because nobody has thought to fix the bridges and roads leading to the Shrine) he’ll come across a piece sticking out of the ground. This isolated piece of Wax Wood is often located by the Shrine itself. Players will want to explore every bit of the mountain as the Wax Wood will not always be in plain sight.

Jin’s parkour prowess will be shown off as he climbs steep rock walls and uses his grappling hook to swing from branch to branch. Players should keep in mind that they won’t always be traveling vertically up the mountainside. Sometimes one must go down to go up. These mountains will also be covered in flowers and supplies so be sure to stock up on the way to the Shrine. If players come across a gap they’re not sure if they can jump, there’s no harm in trying. Should Jin fall into the abyss, he’ll respawn right where he left off (Similar to falling to one’s death in Jedi: Fallen Order).

Players should be able to get two pieces of Wax Wood from each Shinto Shrine. After doing enough Shrines they ought to have plenty of materials to fully upgrade their bows, along with some pretty powerful charms.

Ghost of Tsushima is available on PlayStation 4.
