Ghost of Tsushima is a historical action game set in Tsushima Japan during the first Mongol invasion of 1274. Jin Sakai, one of the last samurai on the island, is charged with rescuing his uncle, Lord Shimura, from the Mongols and freeing his home from foreign control. Jin’s samurai training is his only defense against the Mongols.

Resolve is what Jin uses to heal and complete special attacks learned in Mythic Tales. To fill resolve, players will need to parry, assassinate enemies, and complete other difficult tasks. Different charms can also help Jin earn back resolve quicker. Players will want to increase their resolve limit quickly so that they can carry out these attacks and heal in difficult battles more often. To do this, they will have to train using bamboo strikes found throughout the map on Tsushima island or increase Jin’s legend.

Growing Legend in Ghost of Tsushima

Jin’s Journey Tales make the highest impact on Jin’s legend. Mythic Tales are the second-highest impact, and Side Tales have the least impact on Jin’s legend. Tales will also show how much of an impact they will have on Jin’s legend on the map.

Lighthouses are located on coasts and are another way to increase Jin’s legend. Visit them and light them to level up. Many are also located close to bamboo strikes, so players can increase their resolve quickly by completing legend and strike tasks in one area. Travel along Tsushima’s coast to find all of the lighthouses and save some time. They’re also easy to spot from other locations, so keep an eye out.

Liberating towns from Mongols will reward Jin with legend proportional to their size. To do this, kill all of the Mongols in the area. Hovering over the invaded town will also show how much legend will be rewarded. This means if a player wants to earn legend as quickly as possible, they should liberate larger towns first and move on to smaller ones after.

Players can also increase Jin’s legend by completing random encounters. Throughout the map, Jin will encounter Mongol troops and bandits. While these can be ignored, reacting to them and protecting citizens will reward Jin with a small legend increase.

Bamboo Strikes in Ghost of Tsushima

There are 16 different bamboo strike locations in the three acts of the Ghost of Tsushima. All of the bamboo strikes can be accessed later in the game as well, but can’t be accessed until that act is started.

Act 1’s strikes are located close to points of interest and towns. Azamo’s strike is near the shrine east of the Azamo map marker, Tsutsu’s strike is across the river from Rustling Bend, Ariake’s strike is south of Houren’s Pasture, Komatsu’s strike is in the Komatsu Forge settlement, Hiyoshi’s strike is near Ishikawa’s dojo, Kashine’s strike is next to the White Dye Merchant, and Komoda’s strike is behind the guard tower in Komoda Town.

Act 2’s bamboo strikes are further away from cities and may be difficult to access without Wind of Resolve. Akashima’s strike is behind the Lighthouse, Umugi is to the north-west of Umugi Cove, Yarikawa’s strike is east of the Yarikawa Stronghold, the Kushi strike is east of Benkei’s Falls, Kubara’s strike is west of Little Monk’s Pond, and Otsuna’s strike is north of Omi Village.

Act 3’s bamboo strikes are located on the south side of the map. The Endless Forest’s strike is east of Kin Sanctuary on the coast, the Kin strike is to the north of Kin Sanctuary on an island, and the Sago site is to the west of Kin Sanctuary near a guard tower.

To increase Jin’s resolve, cut the bamboo down using a minigame. There will be three sets of button sequences for the game. The first will have the player press three buttons, the second five, and the third seven. The buttons will appear on the screen as they need to be pressed. If this is done successfully, Jin’s resolve will increase. If a wrong button was pressed, then the player will need to try again. If the player is struggling to press all of the buttons within the time limit or have accessibility needs, the time limit can be removed in the accessibility options. If all 16 of the bamboo strike challenges are completed, the player will be rewarded with a trophy. The player will have the Sacred Mountain Messenger Mask added to their inventory.

As Jin becomes more renowned and skilled, his resolve increases, giving him more health to work with and the ability to perform special attacks. Now that he can heal more often, fights will become easier, and Jin can fight back against the Mongol invasion.
