Cube World is an action-based RPG with a very geometric aesthetic. Putting an emphasis on exploration in a fantasy world, players are allowed to choose a class and travel the world searching for adventure. As they do so, players will fight monsters, craft weapons and armor, and collect loot.

Being aesthetically similar to Minecraft, this game differentiates itself by adding features like quests, talking NPCs, and regions with varying difficulties. With the name of the game being combat and exploration, some players will want to level up their character as quickly as possible. So how is this done?

Understanding Levels in Cube World

The first thing players need to understand is that players no longer level up in Cube World by gaining experience or anything like that. Instead, levels in Cube World are now determined by how many artifacts a player has collected. What’s an artifact? They are objects that the player can collect to increase the their passive stats. There is always at least one artifact per zone, but some zones can have multiple artifacts.

It is easy to confuse these levels with power levels, which is a power ranking that takes things like gear and weapons into account. Still, collecting these artifacts can give players a decent stat boost the more they are collected. Examples of these effects include reduced stamina cost when swimming or increased movement speed when using the hang glider.

How to Find Artifacts in Cube World

So where are artifacts found? It depends on the zone, but in general they can be found by completing dungeons, defeating bosses and finding treasures. In order to acquire information on an artifact like its name and location, the player will want to chat with as many NPCs as possible in any given quest area. They will not only potentially give the player information about the regional artifact(s), but will also show the player points of interests around the map. It’s basically free information that will make traveling easier. Players can also attain artifact information by visiting monuments or lore locations scattered throughout the map, but talking with NPCs is usually the faster way.

Once the player gains a few pointers on where the artifact is, it is then a simple matter of following those hints. If the player is lucky, they will be lead toward an artifact that only requires traveling and exploration with minimal hostile encounters. But more often than not, combat is inevitable.

Which means to be safe, the player should attack any white or green mobs they see while traveling. Those enemies tend to have an easy combat difficulty and still have the potential to drop useful gear for the player to use against tougher enemies. If the player is to encounter a boss or enter a difficult dungeon, they might as well prepare for it along the way. To that end, players will want also want to collect any healing and elixir items they see. This includes heart flowers, mushrooms, dragonroot, etc. Just collect anything and everything that will increase the player character’s chance at survival.

Players may also want to take the time to discover any shrines of life in the area, which will serve as a convenient respawn point if the player dies on their adventure.

But that’s basically it. Gather information on the artifact, try to prepare for hostile encounters along the way, follow the hints, and hopefully collect the artifact. If acquiring that particular artifact is too difficult, then the player always has the option of locating another one by searching for lore and come back to the original artifact later (assuming, of course, that the region has more than one artifact).
