Ghost of Tsushima’s stealth engine is reminiscent of Assassin’s Creed games of old. Although completely optional (most of the time) players would be wise to use the element of surprise to their advantage, especially on the harder difficulties.

Lord Sakai has a handful of different methods for banishing Mongol Invaders. Whether it be an aerial rooftop assassination or a Tanto blade to the heart from the cover of tall grass, there is no shortage of stealth techniques. Perhaps Jin’s most satisfying stealth kill move is the Shoji Assassination. This guide will walk players through how to perform this move, and how they unlock the technique.

How to Execute a Shoji Assassination in Ghost of Tsushima.

The technique itself is unlocked at the end of Act I when players are finally ready to rescue Lord Shimura from castle Kaneda. As the mission progresses, Jin will creep up on a Mongol standing on the other side of a sliding Shoji door. Instead of busting through and murdering the Mongol in cold blood, Jin will be prompted to assassinate him through the door. Pressing square will trigger Jin to drive his Katana through the thin door and kill the Mongol on the other side.

Players can now freely perform the Shoji Assassination technique on unsuspecting Mongols all around Tsushima. Simply approach a Shoji door and use listen mode to find out if a Mongol is on the other side. As before, sneak up to the door and the prompt to assassinate will appear. Be careful not to break through the door or open it normally as Jin will blow his cover. The Shoji assassination comes in handy when the Mongol in Jin’s path can’t be taken out from above. An awning or roof may prevent Jin from dropping down on him. There may also be another Mongol nearby that will see Jin drop down on his friend. Liberating Mongol camps comes with multiple stipulations as well as a bonus objective. This bonus objective will occasionally be to perform a Shoji assassination.

The Shoji assassination is an excellent way to remain in cover while building up Jin’s Ghost Stance meter. To enter Ghost Stance, Jin must accumulate seven kills without taking any damage. Being able to get one of those kills from behind closed doors is certainly a boost. It also helps that most houses in Tsushima have multiple points of entry (i.e a roof hatch or a crawl space). This will allow Jin to remain hidden while moving around camps and continue to rack up his kill-streak.
