Nioh 2: The Complete Edition is now available on PlayStation and PC. The game comes fully equipped with updated graphics along with all three DLC expansion packs. These include The Tengu’s Disciple, Darkness in the Capital, and The First Samurai. Players who purchase the game on Steam will also receive a special bonus gift— The Valve Helmet.

Nioh was the quintessential Samurai game before Ghost of Tsushima stole the spotlight. One could argue Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice should be thrown into the mix; however, its souls-like game engine lumps it more in line with FromSoft’s other titles. Nioh 2: Complete Edition bolsters an immersive character creation screen. As a bonus, players are also free to alter their character’s appearance at any time. However, for those players having trouble making these tough cosmetic decisions, there is an alternative option. Here’s how to play as William Adams in Nioh 2: Complete Edition.

Nioh 2: Complete Edition – Play as William Adams

To play as William Adams, players will need to get through character creation and enter the game. From the Starting Point menu, tab over to the Hut and select Change Appearance. From here, instead of clicking on Character Creation, scroll down until the Transform option is highlighted. Click on this, and players should see the name William pop up. Now, fans of the game’s original protagonist can venture through Nioh 2 as William Adams.

There is a catch, however. The only way for William Adams to become available in that Transform menu is to have a save file from the first Nioh game somewhere on one’s hard drive. Players that have not played the first Nioh game won’t be able to play as William. The only workaround is to buy the original game or the Nioh Collection for $69.99 featuring remastered versions of both games.

William Adams comes from a small Irish Village. He is a navigator/pirate hired by Queen Elizabeth I to find powerful spirit stones known as Amrita. After shipwrecking on Japan’s shores, William begins serving under the Tokugawa regime and becomes one of few foreign samurai. He acts as the main protagonist of the first Nioh game and is reminiscent of another fan-favorite European pirate, Edward Kenway from Assassin’s Creed: Balck Flag.

Now that players can progress through the game as William, here are all the different DLC adventures they can take him on in Nioh 2: Complete Edition.

  • The Tengu’s Disciple acts as the prologue to Nioh 2, taking place at the end of the Heian period. The Genji and Heike care battling for control. The actions they take lay the foundation for the Nioh game
  • Darkness in the Capital is set in the middle of the Heian period when evil spirits and yokai continue to run amok in Japan. This DLC continues to build on the backstory that is Nioh 2 as players venture far back in time to discover the connections between past a present.
  • The First Samurai will pit players up against their rival, Otakemaru, as they venture to the Suzuka Pass at the beginning of the Heian Period.
