While players wait for the new Airship map to drop in Among Us, many members of the community have begun creating and installing mods to change the traditional format of the game. Modding Among Us has become very popular, especially for players who want to create their own custom skins or add dimension to their voice chat with proximity audio. One of the more recent mod trends for Among Us involves the addition of roles for crewmates in the game. Similar to the roles assigned in another popular social deduction game, Town of Salem, this kind of mod gives crewmates more to do, like investigating as a Detective or even reviving fallen players as a Doctor.

In a recent video, one popular YouTuber and streamer, Socksfor1, introduced a game of Among Us that included the new Doctor role. In this game mode, one crewmate in the lobby will be randomly assigned the role of Doctor. Their job will be to find other crewmates’ dead bodies before they are reported and revive the fallen crewmate to allow them to continue working on tasks. Players will need to agree to certain house rules to avoid making this role too overpowered and less fun. Here’s how to play using the Doctor role mod in Among Us.

How to Play the New Doctor Mod for Among Us

This Among Us mod, like many of the custom game modes, is not recommended to be played with random strangers in public lobbies. Players will need to mod this into their own lobby or find a cooperative lobby willing to play by the rules with this mod installed.

Once a player is assigned the role of Doctor in Among Us, they will need to travel around the map in search of slain crewmates. The Doctor will have a Revive button in the bottom right corner of their screen, just like the Report or Kill and Sabotage buttons. When they get within range of the body, they can click this button to return the fallen crewmate to the land of the living.

If the Doctor doesn’t see a dead body, other crewmates can try to move erratically to get their attention and help them revive the crewmate. This can be dangerous, however, and cause that crewmate to be killed in the process.

Slain crewmates must agree not to share who killed them. This would give away the Impostor and make the game far too easy for crewmates. The only exception to this rule is if the slain crewmate later witnesses the Impostor kill again and calls a meeting or reports the body. At these times, the slain crewmate is allowed to share what they witnessed, without admitting the person they saw doing the killing was the one who also killed them.

Players can see this game mode in action by checking out Socksfor1’s video below:

Naturally, the ability to revive crewmates will put a pretty big target on the Doctor, and Impostors will most likely try to figure out the Doctor’s identity to kill them quickly. The Doctor is allowed to share their identity with the group in a meeting, but there is also nothing stopping an Impostor from claiming to be the Doctor instead to throw suspicion on the real Doctor. Players can add to the confusion and possible chaos of this by using the doctor skin and hat for their character, whether or not they are actually assigned this role.

The introduction of roles adds something new and different to the classic version of Among Us and can make gameplay more interesting for crewmates. Players can experiment with the various mods that introduce roles like Sheriff, Detective, and Doctor to create a new gameplay experience and even the odds a little bit more for crewmates against the powerful Impostors.
