Like in other survival games, in Valheim, players will need to spend the early hours of the game building up their character’s strength, constructing their base, and making sure to take care of basic needs. Valheim places players in the role of a Viking who died in battle and was carried not to Valhalla, but to the tenth Norse world, Valheim. While there, they must survive long enough to fight and defeat some of Odin’s ancient enemies. Early on, players can construct their Workbench, which will open up a wide variety of crafting options and allow players to make and improve weapons and gear.

As players use tools, they will begin to break down. Tool maintenance will be important, especially for players who want to keep gathering more resources, fighting creatures, and conserving materials for new craftable items. Players will need to bring tools to the Workbench for repairs. Unlike in other survival games, making repairs will not require any extra materials in Valheim, making the process easy and convenient. However, there is not currently a way to repair any specific items, so players may have to hit the Repair An Item button multiple times to make sure all their tools are ready when they need them. Here’s how to repair items in Valheim.

How To Repair Items In Valheim

The first thing players will need if they intend to repair their items in Valheim is a Workbench. Players are required to make one to progress in the tutorial, so they are likely to have one by the time they want to repair tools. The Workbench will need to be placed under a roof in an enclosed space for best results, so the best place to put it will be inside the player’s home.

Players can tell when a tool is in need of repair by looking at the status bar, which appears under the item in inventory. When the status bar is completely white, the tool is in working order. When it is red, it is completely depleted. When it is anywhere in between, it is beginning to deteriorate and may require repairs soon.

Players can access the Repair function by interacting with the Workbench. On the left side of the Workbench interface, players will find a small square icon with a hammer in the center. Mousing over this icon will display the prompt Repair An Item. Clicking this icon will repair a random item in the player’s inventory. It is not possible to pick a specific item to repair right now, so players will need to click a few times to get every damaged item fixed.

Once every item has been repaired, the icon will be grayed out, and players will no longer be able to click it.
