How to Romance Jacob Taylor in Mass Effect 2

Romancing the soldier players start the game off with, Jacob Taylor, may not be for everyone, but he is a seriously sweet option in Mass Effect 2. He is one of the more serious romance options available to those playing a female Shepard. With this, he requires a great deal of effort on the player’s part.

However, once the player has completed Taylor’s loyalty mission, Jacob: The Gift of Greatness, it’ll be pretty clear how he feels about the Commander. All it takes is a little pursuit. That and a player who enjoys the level of devotion Jacob has for his commander.

How to Romance the Serious Soldier, Jacob Taylor in Mass Effect 2

Pursuing this soldier happens throughout the course of three main pieces of dialogue. Each of these stages of conversation will either be prompted or interconnected to a direct mission or assignment. While players can make off-hand compliments at Taylor, he will only start to respond to the player once his loyalty mission has been completed.

The first stage of conversations can happen at any point after completing his loyalty mission. Speak with Jacob and select the option to have a personal discussion. This will bring players into a long dialogue tree. Players can flirt with him any way they wish throughout the conversation, whether that is catching things he said and redirecting the conversation towards him or simply hitting on him directly. Either way, at the end of the long conversation, players will get the choice to either tell Taylor they are interested in him romantically or just as friends. Selecting the, “I want to try,” option will advance their relationship.

After the player has completed the following related mission to the first stage of the conversation, players will be able to pick up where they left off with Jacob. Once again speak with him about personal matters. In this conversation, Jacob will proceed to gush and speak about how serious he is about this relationship. No matter what the player picks throughout their dialogue, as long as they don’t tell him that he’s being too serious, their relationship should build.

For the third and final stage of the conversation, players can speak to him either about personal matters or ask him how he is as the player’s lover. Follow throughout the dialogue and support his interests. Near the end of the dialogue, players will get their final choice to either lock him in as their lover for the rest of the game or end the relationship. Once locked in, players can pursue the romance scene with Taylor.

When the player decides to start the Suicide Mission in the Omega-4 Relay, players will finally get the option to enjoy their romance scene with Taylor. He will wait for the player in the Captain’s Cabin. Either of the top right options in dialogue will keep the players in the scene to complete it. The bottom two options will draw people out of the scene, so players should avoid them. Players can also cause Jacob to survive the Suicide Mission by not assigning him to any of the jobs during the mission. Instead, assign other loyal characters such as Jack, Samara, or Morinth.
