Square Enix recently released Life is Strange: True Colors, an adventure game where players must make important decisions that affect the narrative. The game follows Alex Chen, a young girl with special abilities and a troubled past. There are various decisions to make throughout the game, some that have a significant impact, and some that can even lead to romance.

True Colors takes place in Haven Springs, where Alex attempts to solve the mystery of her brother’s death using her powers of empathy. Along the way, Alex has the chance to fall in love with one of her best friends: either Steph or Ryan. There are a few major and minor decisions to make that give players the opportunity for a relationship.

Although it isn’t a major part of the story, there are a few reasons to choose who to romance in True Colors. Choosing a romantic interest for Alex can affect the ending cutscene of the game. Romancing Steph will include making a few key decisions, and some minor ones during the story that will ensure the chance for love. There are several opportunities to let Steph know you’re interested before actually making the big decision to move forward with her.

Romancing Steph in Life is Strange: True Colors

Some of the flirting opportunities in True Colors are missable, but they don’t have a major influence on the relationship. There’s a dialogue option in Chapter 2 where Steph asks Alex if she’s interested in girls, and saying yes will allude to Alex’s interest in Steph. During the LARP in Chapter 3, there is a choice where Alex can offer to trade her hand in marriage in exchange for a sapphire from Steph’s magic shop. These are small decisions that trigger flirtatious responses and suggestive looks, but the biggest choices don’t come until Chapter 4.

During the Spring Festival in Chapter 4, players will get the opportunity to officially enter a relationship with Steph. To start the romantic interactions, go to the rose stand and grab one for Steph. Offer her the rose, then she’ll ask to meet up after the show and invite you to come to the rooftop. While on the roof with Steph, choosing to kiss her will complete her romance branch. Players can still go through the romance options with Steph but not end up with her. The kiss on the roof is the key to solidifying Alex and Steph’s love.  Doing so will ensure that Steph is with Alex, whether she decides to stay or go, at the end of the game. Alternatively, players can choose to hug Steph, the relationship will remain platonic, and Steph will do the opposite of Alex at the end (either leave or stay).

Life is Strange: True Colors gives multiple opportunities for romance in Alex’s life. Throughout the game, talking to Steph as much as possible will maximize the chance for growing the romance with flirtatious dialogue. The love path with Steph can be made official during the Spring Festival in Chapter 4. True Colors gives players two opportunities for romance with either of Alex’s best friends, Ryan or Steph, and each has an impact on the end of the game.
