For iPhone users, Apple provides an easy way to trim or shorten a video right inside the Photos app. There are times when users shoot a long video but want to share only a specific part of the file. This is especially true when posting on Instagram and Facebook, or sharing a video with friends and family. Other times, users might need to reduce the size of a video file simply because it’s too large to share over email or upload to the cloud, and it’s more convenient to crop out the required section instead of compressing the video.

The video quality offered by iPhones is among the best in the smartphone industry, and Apple has been consistently upgrading the experience. In 2021, Apple introduced the iPhone 13 series with a Cinematic mode that automatically adds a depth-of-focus effect for subjects in a video. The feature tracks a subject while recording video and keeps it in focus continuously. The focus can also transition between two subjects. Users can adjust the focus point manually while shooting the video, and Apple also provides the option to do this after it’s saved to the Photos app.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The Photos app on iPhone is much more than a standard gallery app since it provides several useful editing functions. Among these is the ability to trim a video’s length or crop out a part of the video. To start, open the Photos app and select the video that needs to be edited. Tap on ‘Edit’ in the top left corner, and a slider will appear under the video. Drag the sliders at the beginning and end of the video to adjust the start and stop time. The trimmed part of the video will be highlighted in a yellow box. Click on the play button to preview the edited video, and make changes if required. Click on ‘Done’ and choose to either save the video as a new clip or save over the existing file. To undo a trimmed video, open it and click on ‘Edit’ again. This time tap on the ‘Revert’ button at the bottom left corner to return it to its original state.

Editing Videos With The Photos App

Apart from trimming a video, the Photos app on iPhone offers a bunch of other editing features. These can be accessed after clicking on the Edit option, via the menu bar that appears at the bottom of the screen. Tapping on the little sun icon, for example, lets users adjust various parameters like brightness, exposure, highlights, shadows, contrast, saturation, sharpness, noise, and much more. All of these can be adjusted via the easy-to-use slider tool.

The Photos app also offers several filters which can be quickly and easily applied to a video. There’s also a slider tool to adjust the intensity of the filter used. Finally, the iPhone Photos app includes an option to flip, rotate and straighten a video, as well as change the aspect ratio when needed.
