Ubisoft has just announced the latest game in the Tom Clancy franchise, XDefiant, a fast-paced first-person arena shooter, and players can sign up to join the upcoming closed beta on August 5. Similar to Call of Duty or Overwatch, Tom Clancy’s XDefiant is based on the other games in the Tom Clancy franchise, including Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell. Players will choose their character, called a Defiant, and team up in groups of six, join factions from Splinter Cell, The Division, and Ghost Recon, and fight through familiar maps and locations across the in-game universe. They will have the option to customize their loadout to fit their preferred playstyle, including selected traits, abilities, ultras, and primary and secondary weapons. They can also experience more linear game modes, Domination and Escort, if they prefer that over arena gameplay.

During their announcement of XDefiant, developers at Ubisoft also announced the first round of playtesting, to take place starting August 5. The first playtest will only be available to PC players in the United States and Canada, but console players can sign up now for a chance to join the next rounds on their preferred platform. To sign up for the XDefiant closed beta, players will need to visit the game’s official website and have or create a valid, verified Ubisoft account.

How to Register for XDefiant Playtesting

To sign up for a chance to play Tom Clancy’s XDefiant early during beta testing, players will need to visit the official Tom Clancy’s XDefiant page on the Ubisoft website. Under the section labeled Register for updates and a chance to play early, they will choose their preferred platform and select Register. They will be prompted to log in with a verified Ubisoft or uPlay account. Players can also create a new account here if they do not have one already, but they will be required to verify their email address before they can sign up. Players can also log in with and link their Facebook, Xbox Live, Twitch, or PlayStation account instead.

It is important to note that registering does not guarantee players a spot in the closed beta. Developers will select the groups for each playtest. Registration only guarantees players can stay up-to-date with playtest news and provides a chance for them to be chosen for Tom Clancy’s XDefiant early access. Even if players are not selected for the first US and Canada PC test, it is possible they could be selected for future rounds. While no official information about tests beyond the one starting August 5 is available, it is possible these could include other regions and consoles in addition to PC.

Tom Clancy’s XDefiant closed beta begins August 5 for PC. The full game will launch for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Stadia.
