Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is Owlcat Studios’ recent CRPG translation of the popular tabletop RPG, following 2018’s successful Pathfinder: Kingmaker. Wrath of the Righteous explores a new story centered around the Worldwound, an abyssal rift through which demons are invading the once-peaceful lands of Sarkoris. Players take on the role of a hero (or antihero), with the option to walk different Mythic Paths. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous also introduces a new Crusade feature later in the story, where players can lead a large-scale assault against the demon invasion.

Early on, players will need to escape an underground area through the Shield Maze, a complex space with a number of puzzles that will need to be passed through to move on. One of these is the Rune Puzzle in the back northwest of the dungeon, which is marked by four colored gemstones on the wall. It’s clear that each of them can be pressed, and that there’s some secret to unlock, but there’s no indication in the room of what to do.

There’s another room in the Shield Maze with a number of paintings on the back wall. The order and color of these paintings actually reveal exactly what players need to do to solve the puzzle. Trying to do the puzzle randomly typically won’t work without a lot of luck. Wrath of the Righteous won’t give solutions so easily, it seems. Therefore, the best way to figure it out is to make the connection between the colored paintings and the runes.

Solving the Shield Maze Rune Puzzle in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

The actual puzzle is located at the far northwestern edge of the Shield Maze in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. Once there, players will find four colored runes on a wall, one each of red, blue, green, and yellow. Four runes need to be pressed, but there’s no indication of which ones or in which order. Players can also press the same rune more than once, so there’s a very high number of possible combinations.

Though players may have also stumbled on those paintings that give away the solution, the correct sequence also appears below:

  • Yellow
  • Blue
  • Red
  • Yellow

Afterward, a hidden door will open in the wall, and the player’s party members can head through. Seelah will run into the room beyond, noticing the sword Radiance resting on a table in the back. As a paladin, she’ll exclaim about its importance and her surprise at finding it, and players now have this unique and powerful artifact to take on their adventures through Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous‘ massive world.
