SaGa Fronter Remastered has newly just released, and Square Enix is already excited to reveal plans for more remasters of the series. Possibilities include Unlimited Saga and Romancing Saga. The series is known for its huge cast of characters, many of whom take time and effort to recruit and train.

New to the remaster is an eighth protagonist, Fuse. He in appeared in the original release, but now Fuse’s story and role are expanded. While he can interact with other heroes, his game branches off in strange and interesting ways that differ from the other seven.

Unlocking Cases in SaGa Frontier Remastered

Fuse is not selectable at the start of the game, instead, players must first create a unified system data when choosing their first hero. If selecting the option to not use this data, Fuse either may not unlock or may be missing features. Fuse’s campaign works differently than the other seven scenarios, instead comprised of separate IRPO case files. After completing the storylines for Blue/Rouge, Red, Riki, T260G, Asellus, Lute, and Emelia their corresponding IRPO case will unlock. However, players cannot select the case from those available; instead, a random one will be picked each time Fuse’s scenario is started. This leaves players with the option to either play through Fuse’s game after each other individual protagonist, or complete all of the other seven before ever initiating as Fuse (and then playing through Fuse’s story seven times).

When used with the New Game Plus feature, Fuse’s scenario will become even more difficult at its base. Every completed scenario will add a new boss to an optional gauntlet, and if defeated will make the final boss stronger and more deadly. Which final boss is encountered corresponds with the selected case file. Fuse may have to defeat Hell’s Lord, Orlouge, Boss X, Master Ring, Genocide Heart, Mondo, or Diva. All of them have different attacks ranging from swords, spells, mechanical heavy weapons, or an assortment of minions. It is important to import already collected equipment, stats, and spells. Choosing to forfeit these – along with selecting “Enemy Strength” – may result in a frustrating and possibly unwinnable scenario.

Additionally, each time players clear Fuse’s current case they will be warped to a new version of the developer’s room. This differs from the original with added features and an alternate location of Baccarat. Once Fuse’s six-boss powered mega boss is defeated, the developer room will also contain special enemies to challenge. Players can go to the old Cygnus developer room after finishing the other seven characters.

IRPO Agents in SaGa Frontier Remastered

As Fuse’s story focuses on the IRPO, he is free to recruit the other members of the agency. It is a good idea to strengthen these characters beforehand in other scenarios and import their training. In some case files, the agents may be unavailable for story reasons.

Fuse

Fuse is the main hero of his own story. Despite being equipped with a blaster, his real strength lies in martial arts. He also starts with the gift of Mind magic, allowing him to self-heal and debuff enemies. Fuse will always join Red’s story, but can also be picked up by others that start the quest to receive the Arcane gift.

Rabbit

Rabbit can be found in Kyo. A Type-2 Mec who permanently comes attached with a Laser Cannon, Bit System, and ECM System. This makes it much more geared for damage and less survivability compared to other Mec party members. Players can also use this Mec Type in T260G’s game, but the stats won’t reflect on Rabbit itself. To recruit Rabbit fully, players can start Red’s game, and midway through Rabbit will join when the story reaches Kyo.

Cotton

Cotton is a Tidi species monster. He already knows Assist, Heal, Needles, and Supersonic. Note that Tidi is an exclusive monster type, and once Cotton evolves it can no longer be accessed; Butch is visually the same as Tidi but with different colors. Similar to Riki, Cotton is an average monster who will have to absorb a considerable amount of monsters to strengthen. In other Scenarios, Cotton is at the Shrike Bio Lab (also a good place to train him). In the remaster, the Bio Lab is important to Asellus’s story.

Ren

Ren is Emelia’s fiancee and exclusive to Fuse’s game. He will start with a full suite of gun techniques. Because he cannot be accessed anywhere else, this means that Ren may be considerably weaker than other party members. However, with time and lots of side battles players can turn him into a capable fighter, sniper, or mage. Still, with how strong other characters will likely start out via New Game Plus makes Ren’s inclusion mostly a novelty than practical.

Doll

During Fuse’s game, Doll hangs out in the port of Shingrow. She is a skilled gunner and powerful with Shadow and Mystic magic. Despite having Mystic magic already learned, as a human she can never gain the magical gift for it. Therefore it is typically a better idea to stick to guns and other types of magic (or even train in swords or martial arts). Doll is otherwise exclusive to Red’s game, joining when he explores the ruins in Shingrow.

Silence

Silence is IRPO’s Mystic agent. As his name implies, he is unable to speak. For the remaster, he is gifted with Shadow magic (which he could not finish in the PlayStation original). Silence has Mystic Mail permanently equipped, so it is impossible to improve his armor slot. Having the Mystic magical gift allows him to learn power spells like Mirror Shade and Glass Shield. Silence is waiting in the Shadow Magic shop and will join Fuse without the need to go into the dungeon. For other hero parties, Silence can be found inside Omble. The only way to interact with him is to be playing as a human undertaking the Shadow gift. This means that Riki and T260G cannot train him beforehand.

Outside of the default IRPO agents, Fuse’s selection of party members also changes according to the case file and to a degree some of the dialogue choices made by players. Patrons of the Scrap bar like Gen and Riki should always be available. Some of the party members will be drastically different, including having Leonard with Lute, or Kylin and Time Lord with Blue. It is even possible to recruit previously exclusive heroes like Red and Blue together, as they wait at Manhattan and Devin ports, respectively. Players will truly need to play through multiple times to experience everything.
