Star Renegades is a sci-fi roguelike RPG where a ragtag group of heroes must fight together in a rebellion to overthrow an evil regime. Each combination of heroes leads to differing synergy and combos, which lends itself to the roguelike genre. While there are several different classes players can experiment with, there are a few secret ones.

Each class in Star Renegades corresponds to a different character: Wynn is known as the Valkyrie, Nodo is the Saboteur, and so on. Unlocking a new class in this game is equivalent to unlocking a new character that will join squads on subsequent runs. This guide will teach new players the prerequisites to obtain these hidden characters so they can expand their roster for future adventures.

Unlocking Star Renegades’ Secret Characters

These four hidden classes are obtainable once the player has successfully paired two specific characters together during a run. They can do so by bolstering their relationship during a campfire segment, which is done before different events. If players prioritize playing actions, which are called Camping Cards, that improve the friendship of the two characters, they’ll be able to reach the highest relationship rank. This will result in the creation of a progeny, who is the successor or child of the two characters in question. Listed below are the possible combinations of characters that result in a progeny:

  • Wynn + Xurx = The Varangian
  • Nodo + Bentley = The Gunslinger
  • Jens + Maryadi = The Juggernaut
  • Tark + Senya = The Spectre

After a respective pair make it to their max rank, typically three or four hearts depending on the combination, the hidden class will be available for purchase at the Quantum Synchronizer shop at the main hub. This is where new classes are purchased, and not just the hidden ones. They’re bought using a resource called Intel, which can be earned at the end of battles. Unlike other resources in Star Renegade, players do not lose Intel upon defeat. Thanks to this feature, players can steadily build up Intel across their playthroughs to unlock additional heroes like the hidden ones listed above. In fact, many progenies require pairing together characters the player must unlock using the store. The only one that can be accessed from the beginning is the Varangian, who comes from pairing two of the starting characters. It’s possible that Massive Damage Games, the developers, will add more hidden classes in the future, so continue to experiment with different class combinations.

Star Renegades is available now on PC and will be coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch in the near future.
