Creating and upgrading a player in Road To The Show is one of the most rewarding and challenging aspects of MLB The Show 21. The start of a season can always be tough since created players start with an overall rating of 50 and this year is no different.

It seems even more challenging this year due to the lack of explanation on how to progress and upgrade your player’s attributes. One of the best ways to increase a player’s stats is to unlock and equip perks. Here’s how to do that.

Unlocking Perks in MLB The Show 21

After initially choosing an archetype for your player’s loadout, go to the My Ballplayer tab and view your archetype program by hovering over it and clicking Square on PlayStation or X on Xbox. This will open up your archetypes program and showcase the different tasks available for you to complete in both Road To The Show and Diamond Dynasty Modes. Players will have their main archetype perk with two smaller perks that relate and help improve their build.

Completing tasks in both of these modes will progress your specific archetypes program and unlock perks related to the player being built. So if you’re a slugger archetype, hitting extra bases and scoring assists will progress that program while stealing bases as a speedster will upgrade that one. Some tasks are repeatable so feel free to grind those out, but switching between both Diamond Dynasty and Road To The Show and knocking out tasks in each is very efficient and not too hard.

The only other way to unlock perks outside of program progression is by buying packs or cards from the marketplace. Buying these packs or cards can take away from actually playing and progressing in the game so it’s advised against but if you don’t have the time or patience to grind out programs, this option is available.

MLB The Show 21 is available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
