The PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 update for Cyberpunk 2077  is now available to download for free, and it comes with a hefty 56GB upgrade for players who already own the game. According to CD Projekt RED’s patch notes for Update 1.5, the PS4-to-PS5 upgrade for Cyberpunk 2077 comes with a multitude of exclusive features, such as ray-traced local light shadows, native achievement support on the PlayStation 5, and 60fps gameplay with dynamic 4K scaling. This is a huge step up from the PlayStation 4 version of Cyberpunk 2077, in which many players felt that the game fell short of original expectations.

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 1.5 also includes a myriad of additional content, such as apartment renting, in-safehouse appearance customization for cosmetic features, new weapons, weapon attachments, and more. Additionally, Cyberpunk 2077 cars, motorcycles, and all other vehicles have received vast improvements to driving, model performance, traffic, and spawning. Further improvements have been made to NPCs, combat, weapons, enemy AI, combat perks, and quick hacking as well, and there are still many more details included in the patch notes.

As mentioned, players who already own Cyberpunk 2077 for the PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade their game for free to the PlayStation 5. For those who own Cyberpunk 2077 but don’t currently have it installed, the game can be installed directly from the Game Libray on the PS5. Fortunately, anyone who was using the backward compatibility feature on the PlayStation 5 to play the PlayStation 4 version of Cyberpunk 2077 will automatically have their game data transferred from the PS4 version to the PS5 version of the game. This includes all progress and saved data, such as any Cyberware locations found in Cyberpunk 2077.

How To Update Cyberpunk 2077 From The PS4 Console To The PS5

For anybody that was playing Cyberpunk 2077 on their PlayStation 4 specifically, they’ll need to update that version of the game before being able to play their saved file on the PlayStation 5. From there, the Cyberpunk 2077 save file can be uploaded to the PlayStation cloud and imported to the PlayStation 5. After downloading Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation 5 Game Libray, the uploaded save file from the PS4 can be played without issue. This also applies to those who own a solid disc copy of Cyberpunk 2077 for the PlayStation 4, though they’ll need to have a PS5 that can read discs in order to avoid buying the game again.

Importing the PlayStation 4 Cyberpunk 2077 saved file to the PlayStation 5 can be done without a subscription to PS Plus. Even if players own a digital copy of Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS4, they may be brought to the PlayStation Store on the PS5 to “purchase” the game again. The “purchase” action is misleading, however, as those who own a digital copy of Cyberpunk 2077 for the PlayStation 4 will not be charged again. Lastly, there is a free trial available to download until March 15, allowing everyone to check out the PS5 version of Cyberpunk 2077 and its updates before making a full commitment to the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
