Upgrade benches make a return in FortniteSeason 7, and players can use them to add one level of rarity to any weapon in exchange for some Gold Bars. Fortnite Season 7 has introduced a few new mechanics and brought back popular features that have not appeared in the game for a while. In the last few seasons of Fortnite, players could only upgrade their weapons by purchasing upgrades for Gold Bars from various NPCs around the map or from the crafting system implemented in Season 6. In Season 7, players can still talk with NPCs and craft new, unique weapons not found anywhere else, but they will need to find an upgrade bench if they want to make a rarity upgrade.

In previous Fortnite seasons, players would need to use building materials to upgrade their weapons. In Season 7, they will instead need to spend Gold Bars to make their upgrades. Upgrade benches allow players to increase the rarity, and, by extension, potency, of their weapon by a single level each time, from Common to Legendary. Players can also transform an existing weapon into a version of that weapon from previous seasons by adding Nuts and Bolts to it in the crafting menu. These upgrades are unique, as the resulting weapons do not appear on the island naturally. Here’s how to upgrade weapons in Fortnite Season 7.

How to Purchase Weapon Upgrades in Fortnite Season 7

To purchase a weapon upgrade in Fortnite Season 7, players will need to find an upgrade bench somewhere on the island. Like in previous seasons, players should be able to find an upgrade bench at almost every named location on the map. Upgrade benches are currently known to spawn at the following locations:

  • Craggy Cliffs
  • Steamy Stacks
  • Corny Complex (3)
  • The Aftermath
  • Retail Row
  • Catty Corner
  • Slurpy Swamp
  • Weeping Woods
  • Holly Hedges
  • Believer Beach
  • Northwest of Lazy Lake
  • Northeast of Coral Castle
  • West of Believer Beach
  • Camp Cod

Upgrade benches are typically found inside buildings, so if players are struggling to find one, they should head indoors at the POI.

To upgrade a weapon, players will need to have the weapon equipped. Then, they should approach and interact with the upgrade bench. Only the equipped weapon will be upgraded, and players receive their weapon instantly rather than needing to wait as they did in previous seasons.

Purchased weapon upgrades increase the weapon’s rarity by a single level. Each level costs progressively more Gold Bars. Weapon upgrades will cost players the following:

  • Common to Uncommon Rarity: 200 Gold Bars
  • Uncommon to Rare Rarity: 300 Gold Bars
  • Rare to Epic Rarity: 400 Gold Bars
  • Epic to Legendary Rarity: 500 Gold Bars

Players will want to earn Gold Bars by completing NPC quests and save them to make upgrades at the most crucial moments. Because Common or Uncommon weapons are the most plentiful available on the island, players may want to save their Gold Bars for an upgrade to Rare or above.

How to Craft Weapon Upgrades in Fortnite Season 7

The crafting system is still part of Fortnite Season 7, and players can use it to upgrade weapons into a variant from a previous season that can’t be obtained any other way. In Season 6, players needed to collect Animal Bones or Mechanical Parts to use the crafting system. In Season 7, these have been replaced by Nuts and Bolts.

Nuts and Bolts can be found in Fortnite as Floor Loot, enemy drops, or loot in Red Toolboxes. They can also be found by shooting down UFOs and talking to Rick Sanchez. Players can combine Nuts and Bolts with any kind of weapon in the crafting menu to create a familiar weapon from previous seasons that do not appear naturally as loot or enemy drops. Players can craft the following weapons:

  • Burst Assault Rifle: Combine Nuts and Bolts with any Assault Rifle
  • Rapid Fire SMG: Combine Nuts and Bolts with any SMG
  • Lever Action Shotgun: Combine Nuts and Bolts with any Shotgun

While not exactly upgrades, crafting familiar weapons like the Burst Assault Rifle, Rapid Fire SMG, and Lever Action Shotgun can still give players an edge during a match.

Fortnite is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Android devices.
