The new simulation game Disney Dreamlight Valley was just released in early access, and many players are probably wondering how to improve the small starter home they begin the game with. Just like upgrading homes in Animal Crossing, players will have to meet certain requirements in order to get more space. However, unlike similar titles, upgrading homes in Disney Dreamlight Valley isn’t available immediately.
Players begin Disney Dreamlight Valley meeting the wizard Merlin, who introduces them to the thorn-covered shack they’ll call home. The inside of the shack hasn’t fared much better – players will initially be surrounded by boarded-up windows and a dusty chandelier inside their new residence. However, players will soon meet Scrooge McDuck, who will run a shop in Dreamlight Valley after players supply 1,000 Star Coins to fund its reopening. From there on out, players can use the money earned in Disney Dreamlight Valley to purchase things from Scrooge’s store, including furniture, which can help improve the interior of players’ homes.
Players’ homes are not only for interior decorating – they can also be used for item storage. Players begin with one row of storage, a fairly small amount that matches their small home well. However, it’s possible for players to expand the size of their home – and in turn, their storage as well – although the process isn’t immediately obvious.
Expanding Homes With Scrooge In Disney Dreamlight Valley
In order for players to expand their home in Disney Dreamlight Valley, they’ll need Scrooge McDuck’s help. Before players will even have the option to expand, they’ll need to complete a few more quests for Scrooge after helping him re-open his shop which will require a mix of foraging and crafting. The first task was first seen in a Disney Dreamlight Valley trailer: helping Scrooge advertise. For this quest, entitled “Scrooge McDuck’s Grand Reopening,” players will first need to craft four signs for Scrooge’s store, which requires a total of 12 Softwood and can be done at the in-store crafting bench, and place them anywhere in Dreamlight Valley. From there, players will need to gather four flowers – two Dandelions and two Purple Rising Penstemon – and use the crafting bench again to make two Flower Pots, which will then need to be placed in front of the store.
The final quest required to enable home upgrades in Disney Dreamlight Valley is entitled “Dreamlight Valley Economy 101” and entails selling items at Goofy’s stall. Players will need to mine the various deposits in the cliffsides of Dreamlight Valley to gather and sell seven total gems to Goofy. Once the deed is done, players can return to Scrooge McDuck, who will install an elevator inside the player’s home as a reward. The Star Coins needed are not nearly as steep as home upgrade costs in Animal Crossing – in fact, the very first size upgrade for the main room is free as a way for Scrooge to demonstrate the new service. From there, players can use their elevator to expand their Disney Dreamlight Valley home.
