Though communicating via a third-party voice chat service can make deliberation quicker and easier in Among Us, players on mobile and consoles or who play in public lobbies with strangers may only have the option to use the game’s text chat functions. Particularly for players on Nintendo Switch, this can make discussions during meetings difficult as they try to type out a message in the allotted time. It could also make those players who couldn’t say anything to defend themselves appear suspicious and get ejected before they can react. Players have been clamoring for a chat overhaul, and InnerSloth delivered with update 2021.2.21. The update introduces a Quickchat wheel with dozens of pre-programmed messages players can use to communicate. This feature makes Among Us more accessible, and safer for users under 13, who will be restricted to the chat options available in the Quickchat wheel.

Using the Quickchat wheel is intuitive once players get to know it, but all the options can be overwhelming at first. Players will need to enter Among Us‘ text chat, select a category, then choose a message, and then select which crewmates to which they want to refer. Players can also disable or enable Quickchat from the Settings menu if they are above the age limit. Here’s how to use the Quickchat wheel in Among Us.

How to Set Up Messages with Quickchat for Among Us

To access the Quickchat wheel in Among Us, players will need to update their game and enter a lobby. Then, they can begin a match normally. When someone finds a body or calls an Emergency Meeting, open the chat box and click the icon that looks like a gauge with four sections next to the Send arrow button.

The gauge icon opens the Among Us Quickchat wheel. There are seven categories of message to choose from, including:

  • Accusation
  • Crew
  • Systems
  • Location
  • Statements
  • Question
  • Response

Clicking on each of these will take players to a set of premade messages. Any message that require players to name another, like an accusation or a question about a crewmate’s whereabouts, will have (A) and (B) in the message. Once players select the message they want to send, a new wheel will open, allowing them to select the crewmates to fill in (A) and (B). For example, to claim that a certain crewmate is suspicious, players would choose the message that reads, “(A) is suspicious.” On the next wheel, they can select the name of the player to replace (A).

In addition to every player’s in-game name, players can also replace (A) and (B) with themselves using the option labeled Me, or suggest there is not enough information by choosing No One.

Once the statement is complete, click the Send arrow button to submit the message in-game. To send another message, click the gauge icon again and repeat the process.

Players can toggle their Quickchat settings under Settings > Data > Chat Type. The two options are Quick Chat Only and Free or Quick Chat. Quick Chat Only will disable Free Chat options, while Free or Quick Chat allows the player to choose in-game. Players can only enable Free or Quick Chat if they are over 13 years of age.

Among Us is available for Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android.
