Vacation is on every The Sims 4 fan’s mind lately with the arrival of the Snowy Escape Expansion Pack. In the new DLC, players can take their Sims on an unforgettable vacation to Mount Komorebi, the game’s first residential and vacation destination world and participate in extreme winter sports, take a relaxing dip in the hot springs, and spend time with family or friends building memories. However, players don’t need to spring for the Expansion Pack to get the vacation treatment. A free patch coming to all players when the DLC releases allow players to vacation in any world, not just the destination worlds (Batuu, Sulani, Selvadorada, and Granite Falls).

Players can’t just pack up their Sims and go on vacation, however. They will need to do a little preparation. The Sims 4 has yet to include hotels and resorts, but the new update allows players to convert any lot into a rental property, or, for especially build-minded fans, craft their own in the residential worlds as well as the vacation ones. Sims can then rent those properties and take a vacation anywhere, from visiting grandma and grandpa for a week in Newcrest to spending a weekend in the European-inspired Windenburg. Here’s how to vacation in residential worlds in The Sims 4.

How to Vacation in a Residential World in The Sims 4

To begin taking vacations in any world in The Sims 4, players are going to want to determine which lot or lots will be converted to rental properties. Empty homes can be transitioned easily for this purpose, or players can choose an empty lot and start from scratch.

Players will need to enter Manage Worlds and select the world in which they would like to add a rental property. They should select the lot and enter Build/Buy mode.

With Build/Buy open, in the upper-left corner of the screen, players should click the house icon to open the Venue Info panel. In the Lot Type dropdown menu, they should scroll down until they find Rental. Choosing this option will convert the lot into a rental property, denoted by a star icon over the building on the map.

When players return to their Active Household, they can open a Sim’s phone and choose Take a Vacation, located in the Travel menu. Players can select the world they want to visit from the menu, then select the rental property and the number of days they want to stay on vacation.

Players won’t be able to enter Build/Buy mode on a rental lot when playing their vacationing household. If the lot is missing items the Sim needs, like a Toddler bed, pet supplies, or fresh produce, they can order these from a phone, computer, or the mailbox.

The Sims 4 is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
