Fortnite is taking game-chat to the next level by integrating players’ Epic Games accounts with the group video chat application Houseparty. This allows players to video chat with their Fortnite friends as an alternative to in-game voice chat. As an added bonus, players will receive an in-game cosmetic wrap when linking their Epic Games account with the Houseparty app.

To use Houseparty, players will need access to an Android or iOS device in order to install the Houseparty app. They will also need to create a Houseparty account. For players who have a Snapchat, Houseparty can be linked to Snapchat to make an account. Alternatively, Houseparty users can simply make an account from scratch. The credentials do not need to match those of the user’s Epic Games account. Linking Houseparty to Epic Games comes after creating a stand-alone Houseparty account. Here is how players can link their Epic Games account to the Houseparty app to start video chatting with their Fortnite friends.

How To Video Chat In Fortnite With Houseparty

After creating a Houseparty account players will be prompted to link their Fortnite accounts if they wish. This is necessary for players who want to video chat in Fortnite. Once this has been done, players will need to restart Fornite if it is open. Once open again, players will need to navigate to their in-game settings and under the audio tab switch the Houseparty Video Chat Integration to on. This will also prompt a Fortnite Mode popup to appear in the Houseparty app. Players will need to turn on Fortnite Mode in Houseparty in order to start the in-game video chat.

Players can then send Houseparty invites to their Epic Games friends who also have Houseparty accounts. The faces will appear in-game on the left side of the screen, and the audio captured via the app will also be shared in-game. Players can customize their background to add a bit of flair to their video chat experience, and there are various Fortnite-themed backgrounds to choose from. The camera will also follow the player’s face to capture every intense gamer expression. This does require players to use their phone’s camera in order to video chat which can be battery consuming and draws from the user’s internet bandwidth.

Fortnite is available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
