Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train topped the box office charts upon its release in Japan. Demon Slayer has become a sensation among anime fans in only one season – Mugen Train even outsold Spirited Away during its theatrical release in Japan. Fans have eagerly awaited the film’s release since its premiere in Japan in October 2020; now, the hit anime movie will have its theatrical release in North America.

Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train follows a group of Demon Slayers – Tanjiro Kamado, Nezuko Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, and Inosuke Hashibira – on their mission to help the Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku hunt down a ruthless demon that has killed multiple Demon Slayers. While on the Mugen Train, the group encounters Enmu, the Lower Rank One of the Twelve Kizuki of Muzan Kibutsuji. The Slayers must take on Enmu to save the citizens on the train and get one step closer to defeating Kibutsuji.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train will be hitting select North American theaters, 4DX, and IMAX screens starting April 23. The film will be released in both the subtitled and dubbed versions. Tickets are available online ahead of the movie’s release. Starting June 22, Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train will be available digitally on multiple platforms, including Apple TV, Microsoft Store, Google Play, PlayStation Store, and Amazon. Pre-orders for the movie will begin on April 26 on select streaming platforms. The film has been rated R for violence by the Motion Picture Association, which means Demon Slayer fans under 17 must be accompanied by an adult guardian to see the film in US theaters.

The film picks up after the events of Demon Slayer season one. The first season follows Tanjiro’s journey to becoming a Demon Slayer after his family is attacked by a demon. After his sister, Nezuko, is turned into a demon during the attack, Tanjiro swears to become a Demon Slayer in search of a cure to restore Nezuko’s humanity. For those who are new to the series and want to catch the first season ahead of the film’s release – or, for loyal fans who want a refresher ahead of time – the dubbed and subbed versions of every episode of season one can be found on Netflix and Hulu. Funimation has released three TV specials ahead of the film’s release, which subscribers can stream from the Funimation website.

Fans won’t have to wait for long for more Demon Slayer after seeing Mugen Train – Demon Slayer season two has been announced to release sometime in 2021. The second season will pick up right after the events of Mugen Train, which covers an entire arc of the Demon Slayer manga. An official trailer for Demon Slayer season two gives fans a first glimpse at the Entertainment District arc, which follows the Mugen Train arc in the manga. Because the film covers such a vital arc of the manga, it’s recommended that fans watch Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train beforehand to get the most out of season two.
