With at least three major games releasing by the end of the year, Ubisoft is rolling out some quality of life improvements for gamers with their new service, Ubisoft Connect. Meant to build upon the existing desktop service Uplay, Ubisoft Connect will offer new features and rewards across all platforms.

Ubisoft is making the most of the last few months of 2020. By the end of the year, they’ll have released Watch Dogs: LegionAssassin’s Creed Valhalla, and Immortals Fenyx Rising. On top of that, they are continuing to expand their foothold into cloud gaming with a dedicated channel on Amazon Luna, Amazon’s upcoming cloud gaming service. All of this is happening as Ubisoft continues to make headlines over allegations over workplace misconduct.

Ubisoft Connect is essentially an expansion of Ubisoft’s existing Uplay service. Uplay is a combination store front and social hub, but only for PC versions of Ubisoft games. It offers in-game rewards, perks through Ubisoft Club, a friends list feature, and more. With Ubisoft Connect, all of these offerings will be extended to the console versions of the games, as well as the versions available on certain cloud gaming services. A mobile app will allow players to manage rewards, see friends lists, and track their game progress across all platforms. A Ubisoft account will be necessary to access these features.

What Games Will Use Ubisoft Connect?

Most importantly, Ubisoft Connect will offer cross-progression for many of Ubisoft’s upcoming titles. Watch Dogs: Legion will be the first game to take advantage of cross-progression, as well as the other features offered by Ubisoft Connect. As for future releases,  Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Immortals Fenyx Rising, and Riders Republic will all have cross-progression. Ubisoft has promised that all major upcoming titles will be supported by Ubisoft Connect, with the exception of Just Dance 21. Ubisoft has also confirmed that the following older titles will be supported by Ubisoft Connect:

  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  • For Honor
  • Ghost Recon Breakpoint
  • Hyper Scape
  • Steep
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
  • Tom Clancy’s The Division

Ubisoft Connect is an especially critical move for Ubisoft given their apparent commitment to cloud gaming. Ubisoft Connect will work with Stadia, Nvidia GeForce Now, and Amazon Luna, though Ubisoft stipulates some features might not be available on all services. While players might not own both a PC and a console version of a game, they might subscribe to one of the many upcoming cloud gaming services so they can play games on the go. Cross-progression between console and cloud streaming offers players more flexibility in where they play, and also encourages them to sign up for a cloud gaming to begin with. Cloud gaming becomes a more enticing proposition when a player knows that they can keep progress for games they already own. Given the continued changes in when and how gamers play their games, Ubisoft offering cross-progression as a standard feature is a welcome upgrade indeed.
