Valheim has been a popular game since its release in early 2021. The sandbox survival game has a fun main-story line that involves taking on several enemy bosses and gaining unique powers from each one. To activate these powers, the player must take the trophy from Valheim’s fallen boss back to the original starting point in the game. There are currently five “forsaken” powers to be collected, and they all vary in usage. Some help players traverse different biomes with ease, while others are essential for taking out Valheim’s stronger enemies.

All of the powers in Valheim have a five minute active time and a twenty minute cooldown until they can be reactivated.  This makes timing and power choice essential, especially when playing in a group. Carefully orchestrating a team of Vikings with abilities that work together can make conquering Valheim’s enemies much easier. For solo players, there are no combinations that can be done (without mods or cheats) so powers can feel slightly insignificant in comparison. Because of this, Valheim’s boss abilities are best used in groups.

Some of Valheim’s forsaken powers have an area of effect ability, so that makes using the powers with friends much more productive. Currently, only the Elder and Eikthyr powers in Valheim have an AOE to buff other group members. These abilities also have no universal cooldown, so a group of four could perpetually have the power active by taking five-minute shifts until the first player’s 20 minute cooldown elapses. Valheim’s Elder ability makes cutting trees, logs, and stumps faster, which is useful for a group looking to stock up on wood quickly. The Eikthyr ability grants the user 60% stamina reduction to running and sprinting. In a group of two, with one player using the Elder power and the other using the Eikthyr power, gaining wood becomes a breeze. With faster cutting and less stamina drain, a group of lumberjack Vikings can use these powers to build a large wooden town with ease.

Using Forsaken Powers In Valheim To Crush Enemies

One of the best overall powers in Valheim right now is the Bonemass ability, which grants 50-75% physical damage reduction. This power is great for solo Vikings, as it does not have an AOE for other players. However, this ability could be a part of a dangerous combination if used with supporting powers. In a group of four, with two players using Bonemass and the other two support using Eikthyr, the forsaken Vikings are ready to fight. Valheim players using Eikthyr can keep stamina reduction active for ten minutes while the Bonemass brutes can take a majority of the hits with their five minutes of damage reduction each. Stamina management is key in big fights, so not having to worry about that as much for ten minutes is crucial in a long battle.

The Moder power helps with with water exploration by providing a tailwind while sailing, and the Yagluth ability grants damage reduction to fire, frost and lightning. These powers are helpful in some situations but they are not as practical when combined as their counterparts are. When it comes to crafting a squad with strong abilities being used together, the more friends the better. Valheimis certainly fun for solo players, but it is best played with groups so they can make these nearly unstoppable power combinations.
