Warning: Spoilers for Defenders #4!

The popular kid’s toy called ‘Hulk Hands’ are a fun way to reenact your favorite Hulk moments from either the MCU’s series of movies or Marvel’s line of comics, and now on the page, these items have made it into Marvel continuity… slightly tweaked to fit within the confines of this sprawling literary universe. And wielded by Galactus’ mother, Taaia.

Revealed in Defenders #4, by Al Ewing and Javier Rodriguez, Marvel officially getting ‘Hulk Hands’ is a fun little detail that fans might have initially glossed over. Traveling across the different cosmoses that existed before the one the Marvel Universe is currently taking place within, the new version of The Defenders led by Doctor Strange  have arrived in the Fourth Cosmos where they are met by a very familiar-looking green giant. Speaking in colors (yes, really), this four-headed Hulk lookalike attacks the team, forcing its eclectic members to go on the defensive.

Realizing this is a battle that might be a bit more difficult than expected, Taaia decides to fight “like for like” and pulls out a weapon that’s basically a more deadly version of the ‘Hulk Hands’ toy in all but name. Brandishing “a solid energy ‘matter map’ of his fists” as well as the “courage in our hearts,” Galactus’s mother’s hands are immediately seen to be enveloped in giant, green-tinged fists, as she channels the crushing power and size of Taaia’s Hulk-like foe to her advantage. Going on to beat this cosmic monster at its own punching game, Taaia officially brings a weaponized set of ‘Hulk Hands’ to comics that are far more dangerous than their much softer counterparts.

Similar in their color but constructed out of solid energy instead of fluffy padding, Taaia’s hands mimicking the ‘Hulk Hands’ general esthetic and use is a hilarious and unexpected wrinkle in Marvel’s lore that’s no doubt a welcome sight for ‘Hulk Hands’ enthusiasts. Taking the country by storm over several holiday seasons in the past (with their look varying on which tie-in each new version of the hands are arriving in stores to plug), ‘Hulk Hands’ are a staple toy in any young nerd’s life, allowing its user to pretend to be the Green Goliath that is the Hulk whenever they please — with several action sounds included!

So while Taaia uses her own version of ‘Hulk Hands’ in a heroic way to help combat a misunderstood cosmic being, don’t expect the real ones to be able to do the same should any otherworldly beings land on Earth anytime soon. Hulk’s ‘Hulk Hands’ are a fun toy kids can use to safely beat on one another in real life, and now comics have their very own version of them, just with a little bit more power packed behind every punch.
