The trailer for season 2 of Hulu’s original series, Woke, has finally arrived. Inspired by the true story of cartoonist and musician Keith Edgar Knight Jr., the comedy series follows Keef Knight, played by New Girl star, Lamorne Morris. While on his journey to mainstream success as a cartoon creator of “Toast & Butter” in San Francisco, Keef was racially profiled by an aggressive police officer. After being left traumatized by the incident, Keef starts hallucinating and talking inanimate objects.

Now, Hulu has shared the official trailer for season 2 of Woke. The trailer begins with Keef’s newfound success in gaining 15,000 followers, embarking him and his friends on new opportunities in activism, including being interviewed on a broadcast set and headlining a protest. The trailer shows the titular inanimate marker (JB Smoove) calling out the pressures Keef is facing as he feels responsible for bringing people together, as a bigger platform comes with bigger issues. As Keef navigates through the path of activism, he is faced with the dilemma of choosing performative activism for profit or bringing about real change for his community. The sophomore season follows Keef’s struggle to mesh art and activism together, continuing the satirical elements from season 1 and the timely topics of today’s world. In the previous season, the series addressed issues of police brutality, cancel culture, white liberal racism, mental health, and many more in a clever way. The upcoming season appears to follow the same suit of approaching woke culture with humor, while also highlighting social issues that remain relevant today. Season 2 of Woke premieres on April 8, exclusively on Hulu.
