The trailer for Jennifer Lopez’s Hustlers has dropped, giving viewers a first look at the stripper revenge film. Lopez, whose career has spanned music, film, and television, has returned to movies of late. After a couple years away from the big screen, Lopez starred in 2018’s Second Act with Milo Ventimiglia. Before that, her most recent on-screen appearance was Lila and Eve back in 2015. She was cast in Hustlers almost a year ago, and at the time, her character was described as the “ringleader” of the group.

Hustlers is based on a 2015 New York magazine article by Jessica Pressler, “The Hustlers at Scores”. The movie focuses on a group of strippers who are fed up with the Wall Street men who contributed to the financial crisis but didn’t experience any consequences themselves. Strapped for cash, the women decide to even things out by stealing from the men who come to their strip club. Hustlers is set to be released September 13.

In addition to Lopez, the movie stars Crazy Rich Asians‘ Constance Wu, Julia Stiles, and Keke Palmer. It’s also Lili Reinhart’s biggest film so far. She currently stars as Betty Cooper on The CW’s Riverdale. Even more notably, Hustlers will feature singers Cardi B and Lizzo, in Cardi B’s feature film debut and Lizzo’s first time appearing on-screen. She previously provided the voice of Lydia in UglyDolls. Check out the trailer for Hustlers below.

The trailer for Hustlers arrives at a time when heist and revenge movies starring women are becoming more commonplace. Comic book adaptation TheKitchen, which focuses on three women who take over the Irish mafia from their husbands, will open in theaters in August. That film stars Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, and Elisabeth Moss, proving that these films are drawing big names. There have also been movies like 2018’s Widows, which shocked audiences with its final twist. In contrast to these serious films, MGM released The Hustle with Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson. And of course Ocean’s 8, which assembled one of the most impressive film casts in recent memory, got the ball rolling on fun, female-centered heist movies last year.

Hustlers looks like a combination of an intense revenge-style film and a lighter heist movie, which may help it succeed at the box office. One good thing about the increase in these kinds of films is that there’s a little less pressure on them to do well. However, with its buzzy cast and premise, Hustlers has the potential to blow up the way something like Magic Mike did. Plus, having Wu in the mix helps, as she proved herself to be a box office draw with Crazy Rich Asians. It’s hard to predict how a stand-alone movie will perform, but the trailer makes it looks like viewers are in for a fun ride.
