Warning! this article contains spoilers for Venom #28.

Spider-Man has faced many of Marvel Comic’s greatest villains. His archnemesis the Green Goblin is one of the most chilling evildoers of the Spider-Man franchise. But there is an anti-hero that is perhaps, just as iconic as the Green Goblin, if not more so: Venom. Venom is Spider-Man’s polar opposite. He is a perfect foil for Spider-Man, even in appearance because in many ways he is Spider-Man’s creation. But what if Peter Parker never became Spider-Man. What if he became something else entirely?

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Venom and Dylan discover a symbiote resistance comprised of some of the most impactful people in Eddie Brock’s life… and Deadpool. The resistance also includes Anne Weying (Brock’s late spouse),  Carnage, and Peter Parker himself. On this Earth, Peter is not your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man but instead, a symbiote user like Venom. This issue of Venom also features an epic battle between the symbiote resistance and some unexpected guests. Venom Beyond also shows readers what the future of Marvel Comics could look like if The King in Black were to defeat Earth’s heroes.

Spidey, having received the symbiote before Brock, could have easily become the character we now know as Venom. Peter ultimately gave up the symbiote because he did not like the aggressive person he was becoming. Eddie on the other hand, has no issue with extreme violence, making him the perfect host. Venom #28 captures an epic moment where Spider-Man, Carnage, and Venom charge into battle with their symbiotes. Is Cates is hinting that Marvel’s heroes must fight symbiotes with symbiotes to survive?
