Developer Notovia released I’m on Observation Duty 4late last year, providing Steam players with a spot the difference-type of horror game that recently began taking over YouTube. Every so often, a horror title releases that essentially sets the internet ablaze. Frictional Games’ groundbreaking Amnesia: The Dark Descent effectively began the YouTube/horror game craze well over a decade ago, with popular content creators such as Pewdiepie rising to fame amid the title’s meteoric success.

Slender followed a couple of years later, its far simpler premise and gameplay mechanics making for quality, bit-sized horror content on the video streaming platform. Then came Five Nights at Freddy’s, an indie title that has since spawned numerous sequels, spinoffs, comics, and novels. Few terror-inducing titles can capture the YouTube audience’s attention like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Slender, and Five Nights at Freddy’s, yet it seems some content creators have stumbled onto a gold mine of sorts thanks to a little-known puzzle game on Steam.

I’m on Observation Duty 4 hit PC via Steam in December 2021, serving as the fourth title in a series from developer Notovia. Popular YouTuber began covering the puzzle title in February of this year, with Markiplier billing it as “the scariest game of hide and seek you’ll ever play.” Game Theory joined the fun not too long thereafter and Jacksepticeye released a playthrough yesterday, March 30, that’s presently trending at #7 on YouTube Gaming. So what does I’m on Observation Duty 4 entail? The game drops players into a finely-crafted space, say a house, and tasks them with watching for changes through security cameras. Any noted alterations must be filed via an anomaly report, hence the spot the difference-like comparison. Ultimately, the goal is to survive to 6:00 AM.

Just like the horrors in Five Nights at Freddy’s makes it difficult to outlast the nighttime, I’m on Observation Duty 4 packs in a whole host of frights that ensure long-term survival is nothing short of incredibly challenging. Developer Notovia released the first I’m on Observation Duty game in December 2018. Players were once more asked to monitor live surveillance footage when Timothy’s Revenge hit Steam in early 2020. A third entry in the peculiar horror series launched later that same year, complete with VR support for Windows. Suffice it to say, the increasing popularity of the fourth outing on YouTube could see I’m on Observation Duty reach the stratosphere.
