Incredible Boba Fett Replica Helmet Honors Star’s Māori Heritage

The Book of Boba Fett star Temuera Morrison has been honored with an incredible Māori style Boba Fett helmet, celebrating the actor’s heritage, as well as his role in the franchise. The actor recently returned to Star Wars in The Book of Boba Fett‘s title role after previously donning Fett’s iconic armor in season 2 of The Mandalorian. Although best known for his time in the Star Wars universe, the actor has had a successful career elsewhere, most notably in the DC universe, starring as Aquaman‘s father, Thomas Curry.

Morrison’s celebrated portrayal of the titular character aside, The Book of Boba Fett has had a somewhat uneven first season. Despite starting out focusing on Fett, filling the post-Return of the Jedi gap, the season shifted direction in its latter half, serving to set up season 3 of The Mandalorian instead of delivering a satisfying Fett-centric story. Although critics and fans were split over the series’ direction, the show managed to end with a climactic and exciting battle on the streets of Mos Espa in an episode so successful it surpassed the viewership of The Mandalorian‘s season 2 finale.

And now, in honor of Morrison’s turn as the galaxy’s most famous bounty hunter, the actor has been gifted an incredibly detailed carving of Fett’s iconic helmet. Shared by the official Star Wars Facebook page, the helmet, crafted by artist Mr G Hoete, shows what Fett’s headpiece would look like in glorious Māori style. The piece, exquisitely carved in wood, serves as not only a touching tribute to Morrison’s time in the Star Wars universe, but also to the actor’s Māori heritage.

The actor has spoken about his proud Māori heritage in the past, recently confirming he drew inspiration from his family’s roots when making The Book of Boba Fett. Morrison also has an extensive history of appearing in roles that have bought Māori culture to a wider audience, first finding fame in the 1994 drama Once Were Warriors, which centered on the personal dramas of a Māori family. Hoete’s gorgeous sculpture seems like an incredibly fitting way to honor both the actor’s background and the Māori people as a whole.

With no currently announced plans for further seasons of The Book of Boba Fett, it seems Morrison is done with Star Wars, at least for now. The actor could, of course, always come back in future seasons of The Mandalorian or one of the many live-action Star Wars series planned. There’s also the chance that Morrison could return to Star Wars as a different character, with Morrison recently expressing interest in playing Captain Rex and Commander Cody. If Morrison doesn’t return to the franchise, at least Hoete’s incredibly touching tribute will remain a reminder of The Book of Boba Fett‘s actor’s time in the galaxy far, far away.
