A group of new Incredibles 2 characters, called the “Wannabe” Supers, are introduced in a new piece of concept art. The sequel, of course, reacquaints viewers with familiar faces like the Parr family and Frozone, but there are plenty of fresh faces. Marketing has placed an emphasis on the Deavor siblings, Winston and Evelyn, who run the telecommunications company DevTech. As supporters of super rights, they’re leading the charge to make heroes legal again by launching a new campaign. While they seem to have the most substantial roles of the newcomers (at least based on advertising), the corporate suits are hardly the only additions.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Back at D23 last year, it was revealed there would be 25 new superheroes in Incredibles 2. With the trailers keeping a clear focus on the titular Incredibles and their respective storylines (Helen at work; Bob at home), these other crimefighters are under a heavy veil of secrecy as we approach the film’s release date. While other heroes haven’t been seen in footage so far, we do now have an image of some of them.

Disney released a gallery of conceptual art for Incredibles 2 to outlets (including Screen Rant) that attended a press day event at Pixar earlier this month. Included is a lineup of the Wannabes, who are described as “second-rate supers” that work with DevTech to bring heroes back into the spotlight. Details about the six pictured can be seen below.

  • Voyd is a young, overeager mega-fan of Elastigirl. Her super power is the ability to divert and manipulate objects around her by creating void that allow the objects to appear and disappear. She’s voiced by Sophia Bush.
  • Brick is super tough with mega muscles and a fearless spirit that showcases her strong name.
  • Reflux is a senior who has the unsettling super power of heaving hot lava, which helps him break into some of the most secure locales.
  • Krushauer has the power of telekinesis. He can crush a car without even laying a hand on it.
  • Screech sports big owl-like eyes and a head that rotates 360 degrees. He can fly, thanks to a pair of wings he made to complete his look, but his real power is a high-pitched screech that can break glass.
  • He-Lectrix can shoot lightning bolts from his fingertips. He’s high voltage, so it’s best to steer clear.

As of now, only Voyd’s voice actor is known. This means either the other Wannabes are being kept secret or they are non-speaking parts. During a press conference as part of the media day, Bird compared Voyd to an over-affectionate dog to illustrate how she loves Elastigirl a little too much. It should be fun to watch that dynamic unfold over the course of Incredibles 2, especially since Helen is the new star employee at DevTech. She may be tasked with showing some of the Wannabes the ropes, perhaps taking on an apprentice or two as part of her responsibilities. There’s definitely potential for comedy (and even a little drama) there.

Fans are certainly excited to learn more about the Wannabes, but it’s nice that Pixar is holding them back in promotion. Audiences responded so well to the Parrs that they’re really the only characters needed to market the sequel, and there’s no need for the team to pull out all the stops to sell viewers. When it comes to highly anticipated projects like Incredibles 2, it never hurts when there are some surprises in store. The Wannabes being a wild card of sorts gives the movie an angle in which to throw some curveballs, since moviegoers don’t really know what to expect with them. Are they really aspiring do-gooders for the community, or are they part of a secret villainous plot?
