While the world tries to wrap its head around why Ankita from Indian Matchmaking was called “not photogenic” by Sima Taparia, the Delhi-based businesswoman is out there telling a tale of success. The only single woman from India on the Netflix dating reality show, Ankita stood against prejudice when she was told to be flexible. Even though Indian Matchmaking didn’t find her a soulmate, Ankita did find for herself hordes of Internet fans who’ve been supporting her story. Fans want to know what Ankita (their favorite boss lady from the show) is up to after the show ended. Here are some answers.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Ankita is introduced as a single woman from India who meets top matchmaker Taparia for an arranged marriage requirement. Life, according to Ankita, is about being independent and just being herself, in spite of what society says. Taparia enlists another matchmaker named Geeta to help find Ankita a match, but the man she meets hides the fact that he’s divorced, although the date went well. After that, on the advice of a life coach, Ankita lets her career take priority over marriage, unlike Indian Matchmaking’s other singles. And, for those asking, a year down the line, she’s been doing just that. She’s focusing on herself and her brand.

After having struggled with image issues… and people asking her to change herself to get a man, Ankita has turned over a new leaf, as she motivates her fans to stand up for themselves. The inspiring entrepreneur had a conversation with Zarna Garg on Instagram where she spoke of life after Indian Matchmaking. Ankita recalled how she’s paused her mind since the show’s launch because there’s so much going on. “My mom and sister were dressing me up as if I was going for a premiere,” she laughed. She confessed that certain things said to her on Indian Matchmaking did leave her triggered and that Sima Taparia in real life is “exactly what she is on screen.” She mentioned that this was her first time interacting with a matchmaker and added, “I don’t agree with how she is, I don’t agree with her thought process at all. And that is probably why I said that matchmaking is not for me.” She found Taparia’s statement towards the end of the show, about Ankita being similar to her, to be a complete surprise. “That was a sweet thing for her to do,” said Ankita, who mentioned that meeting the life coach Barkha was like a breath of fresh air.

Ankita spoke about Indian Matchmaking being filmed in July and November of last year and not having known about any of the cast members until its release. However, things have taken a different turn for Ankita now, as she’s currently close friends with Aparna and Shekar, in spite of the distance. “Aparna and I have our own love story going on in the side,” she joked about her friendship with the lawyer. She wished that she’d been introduced to Shekar as a match on the show. As of now, the single Ankita is busy with her denim brand There!, which is a denim-focused venture started by her with sister, Gayatri. “I’m trying to build a shop where everything is denim – accessories, clothes, shoes, bags, bed covers, saris., anything, and everything will be denim,” she shared. She spoke about the sister-sister team being the first generation of girls in their family to start a business.

Many Indian Matchmaking fans thought that Ankita came to the show to not find a match but to plug her brand,  a statement that she dismisses. She maintains that the brand is a part of her, which is why it was spoken about in the first place. But the response she got after the show is unprecedented. “Had I known that the show would push There right there, I would have started international shipping and payment,” she mused, but also mentioned how she ensures there are no returns in the orders by creating customized fits for her clients.

Ankita spoke about her ideal match being someone who’s honest, communicative, and pleasant to everyone. The Indian Matchmaking celeb cited an example of a man being kind to servers or waiters at a restaurant, which sounded a lot like Shekar’s bartender scenario from the show. The host Zarna deduced that something could be brewing between the Chicago lawyer and Ankita and if it is true, Taparia must surely be regretting not having matched them up.

All episodes of Indian Matchmaking are now available to stream on Netflix.
